I see there is a way to change the top portion of the steering column with auto on column, to a auto on floor or 4 speed setup, Without having to change the entire column. How difficult is it to do this switch? Any advice, I'm thinking aobut doing this swithc if i decide to put a automatic shifter on the floor.

Well, been there with my '73.........by the time you find the right parts, you may as well have already bought a floor shift column and installed it. It wasn't that bad switching columns, really. Maybe someone else can suggest a way to swap the collar, but I don't even think they are interchange-able. I could be wrong, but side to side mine didn't look the same. What car are you working on? Maybe yours is different than a Roadrunner, and someone else here can help. Good luck!

I got the collar pieces from a late 70's 4 spd truck. Tore my 73 column shift piece out and swapped it all out in my living room. It was very straight forward and looks like it came from the factory that way.

No cutting, grinding, or filling. There have been ads on here for the 3 collar pieces but I remember them being a bit overpriced. Maybe I just got lucky finding mine at a wrecking yard for 10 bux.

What excellent timing, I need to do this!

Quote:

Remove the bowls, cut the shifter tab and gear indicator tab off, fill them in, then repaint.

Can you weld to the column piece? I thought it was some cast potmetal crap, maybe not? More info please!!
