We're moving into the last stages of my wife's Day 2 68 Roadrunner project, and hit a bump in the road when it came to dash paint. Changing the color of the dash frame from tan to B5 looked like it was going to be an expensive proposition since there is only one source for this paint and the cost is like several thousand dollars for an eye droppers worth. Sooo, before pulling the pin on this purchase, I decided to experiment a bit, and NAILED IT!
The formula went like this. I laid down a heavy spraybomb coat of black Krylon BBQ and stove paint. While it was still wet, I fogged a coat of Krylon Metallic over it, and let it set for a few minutes. Then, I fogged several super light coats of Rustoleum Satan Blue over that. This color itself is way off, but lightly layed over the black and metallic base coats, I ended up with an EXACT B5! The luster and texture is dead on when compared with an original B5 dash frame in another car we have...total cost was about 15 bucks. I'm giddy like a little schoolgirl!
I'm having issues uploading pics at the moment, but I can have some up in a day or two.
