okay I have an 440 hp motor with an casting date of 11/23/69 & a date code on pad for assy. date of F which is 1970 so my question is on balancing is the 69 440 motor balanced the same or Is one internal bal& one external I am confused I am wanting to use a 11" 143 tooth flywheel tht I have but I believe it is not balanced ????? so would this be a 70 or 69 internal motor?? is there any diff.

the casting date on the side of the block is just that , the date the block was cast , nothing more , nothing less and in the grand scheme is MEANINGLESS .

The important data is the info STAMPED on the ID pad , it has an F , 1970 model year and it's an HP , 1970 model year 440 HP's are EXTERNAL BALANCE ASSuMEing that it is still as it left the factory ? What balancer is on the front of the engine , internal or external ?

69 440 Hp is internally balanced and used 11" flywheel...70 440 HP is externally balanced and used a 10 1/2" flywheel....also different crank dampers

I believe that you meant to state that the 70 engines were internally ballanced.

I mnow its monday & my brain is toast

NO , I didn't , read what you quoted , and I just put in BOLD though I should have put HP after 440 above just like I did to not add confusion , which it seems I did

Your local guy is wrong , 70 440 NON HP is balanced the same as the 69which is INTERNAL , 70 440 HP and 6pk are EXTERNAL BALANCED , if your 143 tooth flywheel is neutral balanced it WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY ... again ASSUMING that the 70 motor you have is FACTORY ORIGINAL STILL.

A little ? if you were any slower on this you would be back in the womb ....

kidding ...

Yes you can use the 69 bellhousing on it , but you have to use an external balance 143 tooth flywheel and there wasn't one from the factory. But, lets not ASSuME it's stock. Do you know for a FACT that it is a factory stock never been monkeyed with engine ?

Post a picture of the balancer and we will know what you have. If
nothing internal has been changed.

The 70 HP 440 used the heavy 6-pack rods and was externally balanced with a dampner with extra weight on it. See the photo in this post:

Would you also be willing to SELL it ???? or are you offering it on SALE from your original price ???

It's going to be hard to find it's original owner when you didn't provide ALL the stamped info ? Is there and HP on the top pad ? You left out the build plant off the VIN on the side ....

Johnrr is right on all counts.
Here is info and pics on the dampers to identify your balancer;

http://www.440source.com/dampers.htm

I shouldn't confuse the issue by telling you that I was able to balance my '70 F440HP internally still using the factory 6 pack rods, necessitating the use of a non "6 Pack" damper......

I have a 440 at home with the big rods and is internally balanced also , just took small pieces of mallory in the drilled holes , was not very expensive to have done.

I Do not have motor for sale its going in my car 6pk style unless someone here has the car it came out of.& needs it really really bad $$$$ via partial vin# thats all of the numbers. and thats enough #s to tell if its your motor.also there was never a price mentioned. and look at posts motor is stamped hp & it does have six pack dampner complete motor missing nothing & running

thanks

That is not the complete VIN , it's missing the plant code , every single plant that built cars will have 1 engine with the numbers you posted AND a letter between the zero and 2 for the plant that stamped and installed it.
