What did Hurst do about the reinforcement plate behind the inner fender? If I were to hammer on that I'm not sure that the shock would mount properly? Thanks in advance! Danan

But, basically it's nothing more than a sledge hammer whacking at the forward section of the shock tower for header clearance.. I have seen them where they are now cut and finished nicely so as to appear not molested. One thing though, if you are choosing to use larger then stock valve retainers or roller rockers that require the wider valve covers, you may have to take off more (about 1/2 inch more) from the inner fender. I put a motor in what I thought was cut enopugh and had to take back out because it was touching the pass. side fender. 6411525-IMG_3311_1_1_1.JPG (433 downloads)

I wanted to be able to pull my cover in the car with roller rockers and a x-ram without having to lift the motor. I have stage V rockers, so I'm going to do the cutting and welding now vice AFTER I have painted the engine compartment and determined that I don't have adequate clearance. This is a grand departure from my standard operating procedure...

I talked to a bunch of the SS racers at Indy one year. The general consensus was that some got "massaged", some got "beaten", and some got smoothed over and even bondo'd depending on which guy did the install. "Everybody funny, now you funny too."
