Will the engine die if you screw the mixture screws all the way in... are the blades closed enough so you are really on the idle circuit

Hey Al......couple things....
*air mixture screws at 1 1/2 out Primarys..1 out secondarys *initial timing at idle? or locked? *do you have the secondarys cracked open a little bit..it helps *070 idle air bleeds are good...
Jesse @ BIGS!!
air mixture screws at 1 1/2 out Primarys..1 out secondarys Is that like a standard setting or is it different from car to car?

It sounds like to me that it could be several things happening, one or both. First thing it sounds like is , if your running one, the power valve is opening loading up the motor, the other things is the mechanical advance is retarding slowly, the lower the speed the more the retard I have had carbs.( AFB, Eddy,BG and Holleys) with big cams that would idle when the idle mixture screws where in from 3/4 to 1/4 turns from all in. I just thought about your idle and high speed bleeds, are they clean? Or goop up some

i really cant recheck my timming because the tape came off but its a MSD billit dist with the black bushing and a hard and soft spring.its been set up this way firever so my initial should be close.
if your not sure on timing you are wasting your time trying to tune the carb..

AL,yer KILLIN me You just had that out,TDC would have been verified during reASSembly.Even a frikin' chalk line would have worked with a "dial back" timing light
i did all that but somehow puttin the motor back in the timing tab got pushed down and when i cranked the motor over to inst the vert bolts it scaped it all off and the balancer thats on it had no etched marks.

If you KNOW the TDC was correct with the damper just get another tape and put it on and MARK the damper with a few degree marks
