Father in law is looking at one, and has some questions. Car supposedly has a slant six, and he would want to put a BB in it. Does it have the same style K-member as an A or B body, or is it a bolt in front frame? How about brakes? I'm sure there were disc's for the front, is there anything unusual about them? Are replacement parts easy to find?

I'm not familiar with the C's at all.

Thanks in advance.

Dennis

not positive, but pretty sure the 6 k frame is different then the v8 for c-bodies too.

they are not the same as a b-body k-frame. The entire sub frame can be removed and replaced and is fairly straight forward to remove which is nice.

disc brakes were possible, but unlikely. check to see if they are 4 piston budd style or a swap with a single piston 69 and up setup.

if it is the budd, it is very expensive to fix, or maintain, and very little is made to repair or replace them. Would be far cheaper to upgrade to the 73 style c-body setup.

as I recall a lot of one year only parts for the 65 as well. First year as a cbody.

I had the same car ( a '66 Fury) with the /6 and put a BB in it.
As was said, different K-frame and even Schumacher does not make a conversion kit to slap a BB into a C-body /6 K-frame.
To get directly to the point on what I ended up doing was completely fabbing new mounts on the frame to line up with the factory engine mounts.
Also changed to larger torsion bars and a bigger radiator.

Recheck those brakes. I'm almost sure you'll see that they are drums. The SMALL drums at that.

Personally, on the brakes, I put in a dual MC and completely rebuilt the existing drums, including all new lines, and, I never worried about dragging that thing to a panic stop. Maybe going Disc is the ultimate, but over rated in my opinion.

Very true. But nothing that can't easily be worked around.

I didn't know you could get a /6 in a Sport Fury? Learn something every day. The 1965 Sport Fury does use a detachable subframe that bolts to the body.

Plymouth to Plymouth only
Dodge and Chrysler subs are longer....
Besides finding another Fury trashed enough that it's worth grabbing just for the sub, will probably have a sub too far gone anyway.

1965 C's are a different bird.A lot of one year only schtuff.
First year for slip yoke, last year for cable shifted trans.
Gas tank is a one year only thing, too. So is all the trim.

Motor mounts are one year only on the 65 C's.
Schumacher makes conversion kits for them so you can install a 66-up B/RB engines but for the V8 subs only--none for the slant six.
The front sub frame is different compared to other Mopars, the torsion bar anchors are part of the sub frame (others have anchors as part of the body/floor)
The sub frame is very beefy and still bolts to the unibody. It too is 65 only and was slightly revised in 66 along with the floorpans and trans tunnel.
Disc brakes were not available until 1966.
There are aftermarket kits available, and the popular 1973 C body parts upgrade (spindles, caliper brackets, calipers, rotors, lower ball joints) works great.
Slant six Fury's came with poverty 11X2" rear drums and 11X2-3/4 fronts.
As mentioned, you may have to mess around with the trans cable shift and steering column.
The 65/66 Fury's do share some common sheetmetal and mechanical parts but be prepared to find things do not match.Rear quarter panels are different.
The 65/66 Fury's have the shortest wheelbase --and are the lightest of all 65-78 C body cars and are a good platform to build any kind of machine Pro-touring,drag car,or a really nice street machine.

I strongly recommend doing your homework on the C's before diving onto the project before hitting any major unknown snags.
Here are a few sites that are C body specific..

Hope this helps.
