Did you have to trim those flanges, or just preference? Nice job. Thermostat housing looks great too.

Trim the flanges? thats the way I made them... not
sure what you get when you buy them... I also have
a couple sets of SS flanges purchased from a member
here but they are all one piece... myself I would
cut them into 3 pieces for expansion (like mine)

Oh I see. I'll bet they seal better that way too. What are the ports on the top by the head?

You mean the casting bumps between the headers...
those are for injection
EDIT
If you are talking the bungs on the headers, those
are for EGTs... I put them on all the headers I made
unless not wanted

Just my

You can get a set of TTI's for W2 or W5 in raw form (uncoated) And cut the flange off, and weld a W9 flange on. To save some money.

Once the Flange is cut off the tubes move around enough to mate up with W9 ports.

Jesse,
Is this something you have done, seen done or just figure would work?
Thanks,
Bill

I did it years ago on Aluminum block W9 setup I was going to use in my duster. But I changed directions. It worked great and was very simple if you have fab/welding skills...

Jesse, did you use a motor plate? I have tti w2's, but the exhaust port is very high on a 9, also the heads look wider.

For a mock up I would set the engine in place and see
if your W-2 headers line up... I have cut flanges off
and welded on different ones... just make sure they
clear

Sounds like its worth checking out. I plan on going with 440+ cubes, dont know at what line a bigger tube would be beneficial. Thanks for the info guys.

The w9 exhaust port is DEFINATELY higher then a w2/w5. You'd have to be careful about clearance to the rest of the suspension if you were going to do that.

It's the same reason a -1 Indy Big Block header is different from a conventional head, and drove Indy to create EZ line of heads.

I've yet to see a set of w2/w5 headers, actually put into a car with w8/w9 heads. You'd think if it was that easy, TTI would just weld on different flanges, and market them to us...

Not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying be careful before you blow a bunch of money on a set of headers that won't actually fit in the car...

biggest problem with putting W2 headers on W8/9 is plug clearance especially on 5/7. The plug location & angle on an 8/9 is so far from any normal 18 degree head that plug wire access is tough. I had Heddman W2 headers on my old W8 motor with modified flanges & had to install plug wires on 5/7 from under the car with a pair of needle nose pliers.

& then the biggest problem with trying to do a set of TTI's is they are very restrictive for a 680+ HP motor, so what's point of building a killer W9 motor & bottle neck it with a restrictive TTI header?

If you're gonna try to use an off shelf header & mod it, I'd do a 2" tube Heddman W2 & start with that.

I forgot you telling me about the plug problems it would have. Who builds a nice header within reasonable driving distance of western Pa?
