Hello,

Really? Have you ever heard of a stock tranny that can hold 1000hp? Seems excessively unlikely to me, but it is a nice thought!

Will it grenade right away? Probably not. I know guys making 800-1000 engine HP in newer Ford GT500 mustangs (also w/ 6 speed manuals)and they aren't braking transmissions right and left.

If the driver didn't stress the trans with hard launches, on-off throttle blurps at peak torque etc, I think it would last quite a while.

Clutch upgrade might be needed, which in turn would put a little more stress on the trans. I don't think it was a stupid question...

No. They were not designed for that. The clutch will act as a buffer by slipping-a lot. If the clutch is changed to a real heavy duty unit the trans will break-this is assuming there is traction at the rear wheels.

I'm going to have the same issue, but figure... will see what happens.
Expecting 1,100 lbsft & 1,500hp.
T56 Magnum etc etc.expecting the 6-speed to be the weakest link but probably won't see much abuse.. some specialist shops say they can build T56 to handle 1500hp alright but north of $8,500.
