Would anyone have some good pictures of the correct exhaust manifolds used on a 340 in a 71 E body. Am I thinking correct that the 71 E body 340 used different manifolds than 70. Also, did the 340 A body cars use the 70 manifolds in 71? Thanks Dan

1971 340 A-body cars used the 68-71 style on the drivers side only (casting# 2863553), the passenger side was a new for 71 casting with a center dump design (casting# 3418623). 1971 E-body cars used a new for 71 drivers side which was a log style design with a rear dump (casting# 3418621), and the passenger side was the same new for 71 center dump design the A-body used (casting# 3418623). . Confused yet?

Ahh, yes. But not as bad as some others . I have seen 71 E bodies with 70 style manifolds that the owner will swear are original. I had myself convinced there was maybe a change over date. I have an original late 71 engine with a set of original manifolds, and they look nothing like a 70. Thanks! Dan

I suppose its possible that some early 71's received 70 surplus manifolds.
VERY unlikely, I'd say absalutely not short of a pilot car or some other pre-production oddball.

I think a lot of people use the 70 on a 71 because they look a lot nicer then claim it to be original.
Hammer hits nail on head

He bought it off the original owner, whom also happend to own the dealership it sold new at btw.
Which probably means it very well could have recieved some dealer upgrades/changes.
At any rate it would be interesting to see the complete history/details on the car

I used to own an early production '71 340 Challenger, now owned by another board member - Aug 2/70 SPD and it was equipped with the log-style 340 manifolds.
That car's twin, 1 digit later in the VIN also has the log style manifolds.
VINs began with JH23H1B1001xx so they were about as early as you get and had other '70 style sheetmetal.
I have had other September and November '70 built '71 340 E-bodies and they all had the logs.
While it's never say never with Chrysler, at best I could see an A-body '71 340 making it into an E-body and that would give you the high-rise manifold on the driver's side.
Otherwise, IMHO there were too many changes between the '70 and '71 340 such as intake, carb, distributor, solenoid, crank breather etc. that a leftover '70 engine getting installed would be unlikely.

Very possibile. I wish I had more info. It was an extremely loaded convertible , 340 , console auto, A/C , power windows, etc etc. It was gold and white top and interior. Car came out of Cincinnatti Ohio area. This is the fuzzy part, and If I remember right the car was ordered for the dealership owners wife. And when the dealership closed in the early 70's and she liked the car, so they kept it.
