I bought a 4 speed conversion kit from Brewers and received instructions to verify that the front bearing retainer is the same as the inside diamter fo the bell housing. I am going to give Brewers to discuss but in the meantime, does anyone know what the front bearing retainer is?

It's the deal on front of trans with 4 bolts holding it that centers trans into bellhousing, There are different diameters.

The piece on the front of the trans held with four bolts that the input shaft protrudes from.... There are four sizes... Make sure your bellhousing has the right size hole to fit your retainer...

I got the bellhousing from brewers too. It seems like they should have know if it was the right one. I guess I will need to call him tomorrow.

They have no idea what transmission you have!!! You have to measure yours.

Especially now, as old as these cars are getting to be, lots of parts could have been swapped around over the years.

I would imagine they know what transmission I have since I purchased the entire 4 speed conversion kit from them, including the transmission.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe those are generic instructions for the bellhousing (or trans) ... assuming not everyone buys the whole kit and kaboodle !! What were you expecting, "personalized" instructions ?
