Hey Everyone,

I was trying to get an idea on what the average size fuel cell the people of the race forum run in their vehicles.

Also, how many of you are running a fuel sender for a functioning gas gauge, versus just opening the cap and checking the level?

Please post what you've got!

When we bought the car it had a 5 gallon and with a lift-off trunk we ditched that immediately and got a 12 gallon. Don't use a sender; for racing only we have a pretty good idea on how much we use throughout the day.

Jaz 3 gallon Pro Stock. It actually only holds about 2-1/2. Fill it to the top every pass so the car always weighs the same. Well, unless I've had to make a pit stop.

I kept the stock gas tank, 14 gallons useable (for street use and stealth reasons :whistling ) with the stock sender I had a stainless steel round sump welded into the bottom center of the stock tank with a # 19 AN male nipple welded into the bottom of the sump at the rear side so the # 10 hard line feeds out of it directly into a 100 micron filter and then to the electric fuel pump I've also owned and raced cars with 2.5 gallons, 5, 8 and 12 gallons tanks or cells I fill the tank in my Duster to the top of the filler neck and refilled it after qualifying each day. Adding fuel, which I have had to do in the past, is a pain with the added danger of the possibility of a fire every time you do it The more wieght you have behind the rear end the more traction you will have also , Within reason of course

Valiant has a 4 gallon, Daytona looks to have a 12. No gauges or senders.

4 gallons and keep it filled to keep the weight on the nose.

Eight gallon, no sender, usually fill it to the top of the foam.

5 gal. without sender. I actually throw a splash in after every run just to keep the weight the same. (Less variables for consistency.)

I use to run a 10 gal. but realized that I really don't need all that fuel on board a drag car. Besides, should anything really bad happen, there would be a smaller "BOOM".

I have a cell that's listed as a 16 gallon tank, but only seems to hold 10-12. it has foam in it, does the foam really take out that much volume?

Also, anyone running a cell on their street car? is there a sending unit that actually works? mine seems to be total junk. I took it out, and the magnet on the floatie had fallen off, I RTV'd it in place with oil/gas proof black RTV, left it apart until the RTV cured...put it back together, flipped it upside down a few time and watched the gas gauge move accordingly....put it all back together and it don't work! it moves sometimes, but not very accurate.

this sending unit seems to work fine when it's out of the tank, but not when it's in the tank. I don't want to spend $100 on a new sender just to have the same problem!
