I take it you are talking about the car that has been on ebay several times for sale? Or has it finally sold?

well, its a real HEMI Challenger 4 speed and the numbers match on the VIN tag and body....so thats gotta be worth something.

But the car is in pretty rough shape for sure...and I dont see any solid documentation of then it was Lee Cameron's car....only documentation when the car was in Landys hands, and all the recepits of the work that was done at DLI prior to being sold to the guy in Hawaii that raced it there (which is not the important part of the car's history IMO).

85 large because the 5th digit is an "R"... ok then.

There is a lot of people that care about that 5th digit. Im not taking sides though! Most people that care about that 5th digit though would not like a car that has an R and that has been as hacked and too far gone as this one! 5th digit VIN people are not usually into race cars

Noticed that the inner fender apron on the drivers side looks to have been "swiss cheesed" yet not the passenger side? Was that something that was done orginally or from a later owner & why just one side? Hemi Fred you got any ideas?

Did it get shipped back from Hawaii under the boat? Would be a cool car to restore to as raced condition, but it sure is rough.

The salt air in Hawaii is highly corrosive, and as you can see from the pics, cars there rust from the top down as opposed to the typical bottom-up East Coast rust.
License plate looks like an Oahu plate, as Big Island (Hawai'i) should start with an H (Kaua'i = K, Maui = M),
but it's probably not a critical fact. There was a track outside Hilo, ran maybe once a month. There was also a track on Maui & Oahu. They may still exist, don't know
Seems odd to me that there are no sliders for the leaf springs, and I don't see the typical large fuel plumbing, both of which were fairly common in that era.
Wouldn't surprise me if the car needs a full re-body and the motor's rusted solid; what a shame.

my guess is that it's been thru different stages as a race car. those holes would not have been there in it's S/S days

My dad used to do the heads for lees cars, the 67 and the 70. we had the 67 car for a couple years around 1977-78 when it was purple and last owned by cliff spalding...lee later converted the challenger to a 4-speed and ran it in *D*...I also have both cars on movie film (super 8) at sacramento raceway, still own the oil pan dad built for the 67 dodge...

Maui Raceway Park is still running. At least it was 2 years ago when I was on my honeymoon. Track is a old WWII air strip. Was alot of fun seeing the cars, and homemade trailers there.

From the price I'd say someone sat through too many episodes of the Barrett-Jackson shows.

Even if you could document it, it is still an obscure SS car that needs everything.
