Had a good friend who recently purchased a GM Goodwrench 350 crate motor from Jegs. It was advertised as having 8.5:1 compression ratio. He decided to pull it down before installing it - just to check things over. CR turned out to be 7.8:1. Pistons, which were supposed to be flat tops, were dished. Jegs has no idea how many went out the door that way, but I can tell you they are on the "hot seat" right now. Gotta wonder if GM was looking at improving their warrantee claims??? Pretty hard to believe that this motor was a one-off mistake. Also hard to believe that GM didn't know it. I know this guy very well and this aint going away quietly.

Personally, I don't know why anyone would pay top dollar for a motor that they know nothing about in regards to machine work, or parts installed. Guess its sorta like "Moparts disease"..... (If I pay more for it, it must be better!)

I can honestly say I'm surprised. I sold GM crates for years...actually I sold over 30 the last year I was with GM with no issues. I can't say for sure...but if your buddy gets stuck...I may be able to still pull some strings.
