I figured since most of the restoration guys do not frequent the race section here are a few pictures of the 66 Hemi car that is at Bob George's shop. There are more on that thread in the race section. Anyhow, after a good struggle we got the back seat out. Here is the sheet.

Here are a few items that were under the seat on the floor. Assembly line workers must have had fumbleitis.

A cool package that was in the glove box. In case your state required a front plate. It has the two screws, two plastic bumper nut inserts, and the rubber bumper.

Nice assembly line improv. The best guess I have the spot welder missed finishing the job and it had to be finished by Mig down the line. Nice work. I guess for proper restoration work I have a new skill to learn.

More restoration technique tweaking needed in the paint booth. I just need to remember how to run paint.

Finally a cool note Jim wrote to the dealer that all was OK with the car except they needed to remove the 426 Hemi plaques from the fenders and the 426 hood ornament. Thanks to Bob for his hospitality and to Jim for letting me scour over his car and take pictures and make notes. He is a real good guy and told some great stories about the times they had together. Hopefully next summer they will be able to add several more chapters to that book. I have more pictures if anyone is interested in any place in particular and I will be going back as my camera battery died while there.

One more thing. The red X on the trans. I did a 1700 mile 66 Coronet and it had the same red X on the trans. Possibly to denote Hemi/HD trans on the line?

Nice stuff. Were those points under the seat or under the carpet?

The points were on the floor under the seat. I can see the nuts and the trim clips but the points puzzle me.

Were they new or used - maybe thrown under during an early life tune-up?

Here is a 66' that a friend picked up a few years ago. Looks very similar. The runs in the paint where quite common. My old 67 hemi r/t original paint had them also. People would always knock the paint runs at shows, I'd just laugh at them.

Should be left as it is for proper restoration, you have the pictures of the original to prove it.

If you can confirm the original alternator is still on the car, can you post the part number? Thanks much!

Looking at the build sheet it came with a standard alternator - was there anything special about 66-67 alternators on a Hemi?

Checked my notes....The standard alternators on 66, 67 and some early 68's was the standard single pulley 537 - used on almost everything back then.

Jim - just trying to veryfy. The written sources that exist as far as alternator application are "ballpark" accurate at best and completely wrong in the worst case. I have been trying to get as many true survivor verifications as I can assuming the alternator is original to the car, of course. You get into early/mid/late 68 hemi applications and it's a little muddy. Thanks!

I checked with a few people with original cars....All (66-67)were verified with the 537 (as the standard, non-optional) so it should good to go with. I am interested in seeing what is on this car - If it still has its date coded original.

That's really cool stuff and great photos. Thanks for posting them, I would love to see more.

Regarding the points. My understanding is that the engine came a as a Complete unit (w/ dist) and was bolted in from the bottom. The only reason I could see a Factory worker putting them under the seat would be that the car did not run properly once the car was together. I'm not sure what the factory did in those cases but some of you might. I would think they would have had an area where the car was taken so someone could troubleshoot the problem. If the points aren't worn, then perhaps someone did put the under the seat to quickly dispose of them but I wouldn't think that would be too likely. If they are worn, then I would think they found their way under the seat after an early tune-up on the car.
