thought was told to use some brad penn break in oil but is that not senthetic? and wouldnt that not be good for breaking a new set of rings?? how long would you run the break in oil in the motor before changing?
have a 7qt pan do i need to run 7 qts, in it just to break it in (roller cam) or will 6 work as long as didnt turn it hard?

How are you breaking in the engine? Driving it, or on a dyno? What kind of rings do you have?

Yes, most recommend not using synthetic for break in. You want a conventional oil with lots of ZDDP in it. You want to get some load on it right away. What you dont want is allowing the cylinder walls to glaze (loading pushes the rings hard against the cylinder walls which keeps the oil from glazing onto the cylinder walls). Some occasional full throttle blips in the upper gears will do it. (Load it, but don't lug it)

It'll take a bit longer just street driving. A dyno gets the job done in about half an hour. Drag strip will get it done in a couple passes. Try to keep the temps around 180 (don't let it get too hot). Make sure your timing and mixture are set correctly.
