Hey, how long of an enclosed trailer would I need to transport a '69 Chrysler C-Body around? I believe the car is something like 18 or 19' long. Would a 24' trailer be enough? I'll also need to haul around my '68 Charger

Maybe I just don't understand how these trailers are measured; I saw a guy with a 24' trailer once, and it seemed like his '69 Superbee was a tight fit; not sure if maybe he had a bunch of stuff at the nose of the trailer maybe...

Another related question is will I be able to comfortably tow it around with a 1/2 ton, like a Ford Expedition SUV or RAM 1500? Or should I be towing a big car like that with a bigger truck? Asking because my '99 Ford Expedition is about ready for retirement and am in the market for a new truck; and was thinking RAM 1500

If it's inclosed, 24' might be marginal. Here's what a 17' car looks like on an 18' open trailer. Uses it all!

I would think that it would fit in a 24' trailer if the tie down points are far enough forward. As far as towing it with a 1/2 ton or an Explodition.....I'd rather tow the 1/2 ton or SUV with the C body! Get a 3/4 ton diesel pickup.

I've towed my trailer (open) with a Dakota, my old Polara wagon, and my 3/4t Power Wagon. I prefer the power of the old wagon, but the stability and brakes of the PW. My son used it last week to bring his Barracuda back to my house. He pulled it with his 05-ish 5.7 1500. Power was fine, but the back was sagging. Get a 3/4 or 1t.

Here's a Fusey Imperial on a 20' trailer. Your car will be about 5 inches shorter than this one.

Ignore the angle on the trailer. It was a borrowed unit and I only had a drop hitch available. Notice the truck is relatively level. It's still a heavy car. A half ton truck will have it's hands full with that thing.

You need to forget the whole trailer idea and just drive the car. That's what they were built to do.

Keep in mind when properly describing the length of a trailer that it is from the front of the tounge to the rearmost part of the trailer. For an enclosed trailer, you need to know the inside length with the door closed. With an open trailer you can have the car sticking out over the end of the trailer. Also on enclosed one, watch for internal fender boxes so you have enough width to get the car in and once you're in, you still have to be able to get out of the car. Some will have a side door around where the driver's door is to make it easier.

24 foot enclosed trailer is gonna have a 24 foot length dimension on the outside of box itself. The car should fit, but most 24 footers get the cabinet treatment that eats into storage capacity at front of car area.

i hauled my 69 newport in my trailer w/ NO problems! its a 24',plus a 4' v-front. 8.5' WIDE BODY is needed for any c body,so make sure to buy one. i also have 5500# axles=6lug wheels. the 3500 axles are crap, adding a trailer weight, plus car,and other junk in the trailer will overload them fast.also 4 wheel brakes and a good trailer brake is a must!i have tongue weight bars too,big help! i had plenty of room in front too. and for 350.00 i bought adrivers side escape door,to open the car doorthrough, for really easy exit. i had 7200 in the trailer, and i would do it again in a minute. i pull it with a 2500HD dmax,NO suv thanks
once again;
24'x8.5
5500# axles
proper mounted tie down locations
4 brakes and controller
weight bars
escape door
DONT SKIMP

I agree with what's posted above ... my 68 300 is a tight squeeze width wise in my 28' X 8.5' hauler, a 24 box will be long enough if there are no cabinets in the front ... a 1/2 ton truck is out of the question for safety's sake

The C body will weigh 5500 or so and the trailer will weigh in at another 5k with tools and tie downs,
Add some other misc, like coolers and spare tires, and you are now pulling 11K lbs with a wind resistance of the enclosed..
A 2500 series is minimum..

Here is my 68 300 on an 18 ft open and my 2500 Ram Van pulling it..

thanks for all the answers! I'm towing the car because I moved to a City 6 hours away; and driving back with 3.91 gears won't be fun...plus my new city only has a track 3 hours away; also need to haul my Charger back from Indiana (20 hours away) after paint.

Guess I'll be looking at a 2500, likely diesel. Was looking for a used trailer, but may end up buying new to find everything I need...

I have hauled a 69 Polara convertible in a 20' enclosed trailer and it was tight but it fit!

A C-body will typically weigh between 4,200 and 4,500......They only top 5,000 with multiple dead bodies in the trunk.......

I've had a Superbird in my 24 ft enclosed. I think you will be just fine!

hmm...buying a 3/4 ton diesel truck and trailer.....or spending $1500-5k on replacing the 3 speed auto with an A518, or adding a gear vendors OD, or a keisler/TKO tranny, or the new passon 5 speed and driving it....I think I'd put the $$ into the C body so it's more comfortable driving distances, personally....moving from a hemi 1/2 ton ram to a diesel 3/4 ton will be about a $10k upcharge, probably twice what you'd have into an OD tranny in the chrysler if you went all new parts and didn't do the work yourself.

Upgrading to a diesel would give him a much better truck too.

Make sure it's wide or you'll be climbing in and out of windows... If it was me and the car's registered I'd take 8hrs for the 6hr ride and drive it home.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

I have a 24' enclosed, no cabinets or anything built-in that I regularly haul a '69 Fury in with no problem. Mine is a 102" wide model with a street side large door to get in and out of the car. Works fine.
