Let us know when you hear from Jamie and/or get your trans. I hear the list is up to 400 people, and the wait is a least a year.

I am supposedly number 27 and still have heard nothing. I talked to Jamie about three weeks ago (that is when I found out I was number 27) and he said he was on number 19 then, but again I still have not heard anything. Any one else have any news?

I think I'm 440 on the list...I got awhile, quoted a year...curious I'm running the 3:55 gears right now, what will that bring me down to in 5th? would going up to 3:91's be too much of a hassle on the highway?

At 2500 rpm in 5th with a 26.5" tire you would be running 72 mph with 3.91s and .7 high gear. You'd be doing about 2200 RPM with 3.55s at the same speed. Or, at 2500 rpm and 3.55 would be 79.4 mph. Now at 7K rpm!!!!!!

If business is booming, why doesn't the guy hire more people to get these things assembled and shipped out?

i'm sure he's got his reasons, but with something as delicate as this, i don't know that i would want to hire someone who isn't specifically familiar with assembling manual transmissions.

you train a guy as best you can, (which takes time away from everything else), and then a month later found out he was doing one little procedure wrong, and now you have 20 transmissions in the field with issues?

i agree that is the way you make a business work, but it's easier said than done.

Number 18 on the list here with a little update. I spoke with Jamie this morning. He said they are slammed with work and will be working this weekend. One of the things he said is that he'll be packaging up my trans this weekend for shipment next week.

On the '70 e-body its going in, I had to pull the electric fuel pump and send it out to be rebuilt this week. I'm am hoping it will be back in time for the Mopar Alley Show coming up on June 1st at De Anza College in Cupertino, California.

Before the new trans goes in still need to pull my Street Twin clutch out, send it out to Mcleod and to have it freshened prior to being able to enjoy the 5 speed. It looks like I have a small gear oil leak at the front countershaft-to-case hole or at the input shaft somewhere on my factory trans, and it's allowed some gear oil to coat the inside of the scattershield and puts a few drips of gear oil on the ground after a couple days. The pressure plate and clutch themselves seem dry, already are 18-spline, but I'm not going to take any chances with a possibly contaminated clutch.

I'm going to end up driving the car with the 3.54's for a while before putting in 3.73's. I do need more torque multiplication in the first four gears, as I can only spin the rear 325 50R15 Nitto's half the time through second on the street with the 3,54's once they have warmed up. Every once in a while, they almost hook up in first, and that gives pretty impressive acceleration when it happens.

Dr Diff helped me figure that 3.73's will be just about perfect for my final cruise RPM in 5th at 70 mph, and give me some extra get up and go.

Like that old Hot Rod Lincoln song says, I'll be looking forward to the times I can say "....and I shook it on down into overdrive".

More to follow when the trans shows up. I'm all the way over on the left coast in San Jose, CA, so it's a pretty good truck ride from Jamie's place.

Suppliers can be the hold up too.

I got a call from Jamie earlier this morning. He was saying he got a batch of rods with a slightly incorrect bend. They had to wait to get correct ones from the supplier. He also said my trans and shifter are boxed up and ready to ship! He gave me a few tips and things to remember with the install too.

Quality and craftsmanship, they are worth waiting for in my book.

This has become a busy year for me and my two Mopars. My '68 Barracuda convertible is getting a new drive train upgrade, a automatic overdrive (a built 200R4 with a Powerglide bolt on bellhousing, HD 3000 stall- one wire hook-up lock-up converter from Precision Torque Converters and a 750 hp rating for the trans- they make one that holds 1000 hp and a bell housing is available for Big Block Mopars too. It's a nice option as it takes a lot less under-car modification to fit one in an A, E or B body)

The particular bellhousing I'm using fits Mopar small blocks and Gen 3 Hemi's). No more adapter plates and spacers, but there is still a bit of massaging and fabricating of a rear trans mount at the torsion bar crossover. There are several great threads about this over at A-bodies Only. in the Drivetrain section.

This '68 convertible's transmission is going to be powered by a fresh EFI'd 408 Magnum stroker with Hughes Super Prepped CNC massaged with extra hand blended Eddie heads, Airgap intake, Super Gulp throttle body, a decent sized hydraulic roller, Hughes bottom end and Hemifever's SCT tune. It should come in around 500+hp. I'm right at the beginning of that project and the short block is almost together. It won't be long, but I bet I get the 1970 on the road first.

I know, I know; it's a GM trans, but it requires significantly less horsepower to drive than the Mopar overdrives and it requires a lot less surgery at the crossmember. The only cuts required on an A-body are to small portions of the torsion bar crossover.

I wonder which car is going to be quicker to 150+ mph? the '68 weighs just under 3000 lbs, and the 1970 has to be somewhere around 3600+lbs with around 700 hp.

In Jamie's transmissions case, it simply bolts right in making it worth every penny and them some for those of us who would never want to cut anything on a numbers matching 440-6 car.

My hypocrisy with using GM parts in my Mopars only goes so far, besides you won't be able to see the transmission in my '68 and I won't bring it up at car shows. etc

I see no good coming from that move. That is a good way to end up with a whole lot of junk.

Number 18 on the list here with UPS Tracking Numbers in hand, the hand built Transmission is due here this coming Tuesday afternoon.

I'm darn glad it was put together by the master himself and not some crew of newbie trainee's left over from Kiesler's shop or somewhere else that a few naysayers think he should have hired and trained.

Most here get it. It's been a needed product since these cars were first made. Relative to that time span, Jamie has pulled off the design, manufacture and build in what could be considered record time!

How many people in your lines of work are truly masterful at the jobs they do, versus how many can just get by and always seem to miss the true art of doing the job right?

At my work, the ratios don't look to good, but I see that in almost all professions. The really good ones are usually always booked solid and working their hind ends off! Recession and injury affected folks excluded.

Well Jamie the problem is that there are alot of people that don't have a clue what it takes to run a business let alone finding really good workers. Thanks for the hard work and the questions that you answered for me over the years and the times that you were willing to stop by at my shop or home to help me with my transmissions!!! Now get some rest when you can so you don't burn out!!!!!!

Thanks Again Harold

Was a sales rep for a Vinyl window manufacturer.. New president stepped in and started making what seemed some A$$inine decisions..

One was to take manufacturing to what was called ISO 9000 ( I think anyway, been awhile) which involved triple checking everything done in the manufacturing process.. What a joke right???

Anyone ever check their new tape measure when they get one?? The company got in an entire box of Tape measures that were 1/4" off... Without the ISO process they would have never been found and custom sized windows were built with 1/8" specs... What a nightmare that would have been..

I have been waiting a few years now....I am number 180 (or something like that) hopefully by next spring I can be shifting a 5 speed. Don't mind the wait if it means no problems with the final product!

yeah for sure, the car will be ready for next summer so hopefully it will work out but if not may have to run a 4-speed if it does not and then change it when the 5-speed shows up. i am planing to install the hemi, trans and headers sitting on the alterkation from underneath so it would be nice to do it once and forget about it but we shall see.

thx Bruce

I made the statement, with the assumption, that only highly-trained and qualified people would be hired. I'm sure there are people on Moparts.Com that would love to work for you. As you stated, the hours are wearing you down. However, in reality, I do not know the complexities of your operation or what is involved. I do wish you the Best of Luck and I hope you take of yourself as well. The first wealth is health.
