THANKS I guess my intuition was correct as I figured that was the exact location for the receptacle and screwed it in that spot. The wiring (I am assuming) ties in to an auxiliary lead(pink) off the fuseblock as I have an extra (hot) connector with factory ends that winds up behind the l/s kick panel(?). MB

I think it plugs up to a connector in your rear wire harness where it goes next to the rear wheel house behind the back seat? You shouldn't have to go all the way back to the kick panel?
JD
The wire is uncut original and is like 10' long, with an original style female connector. I am thinking its that long so it can reach the area by the kickpanel. I could be wrong here, but I have never seen or taken apart a car with this setup.

Yes - There is a connection - pic attached. Is the one you have a single piece that has the lamp socket and goes all the way to the front? That may be a parts department "package" ?
Mine is the exact setup you have with the same connector and I am pretty positive that it is original to this car. The other side of that connector(that goes into the car), if you were to follow that black wire where would it attach/terminate?
I don't have my camera here or I would take a pic of it. I will try to post a pic of it later. But what I have is identical to what you photographed. Receptacle/switch/connector/wire color, etc...
