I have a brand new Comp Hyd. roller cam, specs are .544/.541 lift 236/242* duration @.050. I will have to buy lifters/springs.
It will cost me a little less to go with a solid flat tappet, and I'm wondering if I will make more power with a solid FT cam than with the hydraulic roller I have.
My combo is 426" wedge, Stealth heads-no port work, Victor intake, 750 Demon carb, 2" TTI headers, 440Source rockers.

Which cam would make more power in this combo? The hyd. roller mentioned above? Or a solid FT spec'd for my combo?
I've used CamQuest and it says that the hyd. roller will make more power, but we all know how inaccurate Camquest is...

I'd go with they HYDR roller and sleep nights not worring about a worn lobe putting grit through your motor!

That's one if the benefits of the hyd. roller, but the cam going flat doesn't scare me from going solid FT. Not to say it won't happen, but I'm more worried about the 440Source rockers at this point.

Obviously the solid roller is the ideal choice but I will have to buy a cam in addition to the lifters. And would more than likely have to buy better rockers (may do this anyway). And pushrods too. Already have them for for the hyd. roller.

An aggressive lobe like the Comp MM flat tappet will make more power and with the edm lifter will live too.You might check their circle track lobes also.Let are very stable and should live very well with the edm lifters.I'm not a fan of their shelf grinds.Check with Bullet and Engle also.

Hydraulic lifters are getting less expensive
http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/newhyrolifor.html
being a roller it will have a more aggressive ramp and the valve spring retainer and keeper upgrade is probably not that much.

Hughes calls for these springs
http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/products.php?browse=search&search=1106&partid=10270
$92 for 16 is cheap enough
another 100 for retainers and keepers.
with those numbers I would be tempted to just go with retainers and keepers with the stealth springs and try it?/ I checked the pressures on stealth spings but can't find where I put it on my computer???

Just a question...Will a solid roller make more/less power than a hyd roller??

Not real sure but if they were the same duration, lift and LSA i'll bet there would be hardly any difference the big thing about solid cams is the ability to rev higher then Hydraulics.

First off, I would say stick with the hydraulic roller, I doubt you would see any gains going to a solid FT with unported heads.
Second- LOSE those rockers and replace them with these. J.Rob

I didn't think those would work on a roller cam. What's wrong with the 440Source ones? I've only read about one failure.
