The only time I can think that a tru-trac was a good thing to have. That thing would have been a handfull if it had a spool in it and kept power to the other tire.

Something to think about........A LOT of times when parts like that break it's when the car is coming out of the water box and the tires grab and jerk the wheel speed down.......or it's pedaled it after it's started spinning the tires a little bit.......
So how can a driver avoid that? Obviously dont pedal it but what about exiting the burnout?

you should never be under power when the tires bite coming out of the water. Drag radials are worse, since they don't slip like slicks they transfer all the shock to the drivetrain and the rear is first. His axles were his weakest link this time........
Drag radial cars need to check the axles pretty regular.

You aren't supposed to do a burn out in the water box in the first place.
OK.......You roll through the water box, start the burnout where the ground is damp/wet (which is still considered the water box) and as you roll forward you need to make sure to let off the throttle before the tires grab, which means you need to have quite a bit of wheel speed.......
I know it sounds funny, but most of the time it's a lack of power that breaks stuff......there's not enough power being applied to keep the tires spinning so the tires are jerked down to a stop......That quick/sudden stop is what kills parts......I've seen rods kicked out.....torque conveters broken......axles broken.......low/reverse roller clutches exploded........U-joints flying out.......
I'd built a Turbo 350 trans for a customer's low 10 second truck.......They take it out for a test drive and the very first time they hammer on it they break the input shaft (this is on the street)......They think they're the shizzle because it makes so much power but what really happened was is they were blowing the tires off while in low gear and it hooked up, yanking the motor down, and twisting the input shaft........It's that sudden smack that's the killer....... They actually came back to me all pissed off because I "couldn't build a trans to hold their power"......
If you can't handle the truth, you're living a lie.......
