Are 71-74 B body and 70-74 E body housings the same? Need one for a 72 Rrunner and was wanting to know what all fits. Thanks for any responses!

No, and I think they are 71-72 B-body only.

Although,,,,,I am not sure if the 73 up B-body rear is the same or not

1971 or 1972 B body rear will bolt right in. 1973 and 1974 B body rear will work but they have a larger hole where the locating bolt fits and will need a bushing fabricated.

I must have missed something somewhere. I always thought the spring perches were wider from B to E, as well as overall length. 1.3" I thought.

The 71 up housing are wider than the e bodies, got any c bodies around? check those as some 70 up C housings are the same as 71 -72 B body.

one of the charts in the archives are wrong and has cost a few members $ by going by the wrong one

I would think the mods would have deleted it by now...NOT!

I forget which one is wrong..but look at both and compair the #s and you can see they are differnt

I have a housing that had a 67 chunk and was told it was a 67 polara which is a B-body with 46" spring perches

the flange to flange is 55"

i was told it was also same as a e-body housing

the axle is 30" long

i am still holding it to see what it is exactly before I have it cut down

confused

I'm not sure that's 100% true, I could be wrong though. When I was researching measurements for my ride I saw 2 charts that differed. After being puzzled for a while I got to thinking about flange to flange measurements and I came to the conclusion that they don't say what flange. I checked the chart that was said to incorrect and the measurement for the B body rear was Axle flange to Axle flange. I assumed they meant the flange on the housing itself.

The chart at the bottom of the link is WRONG for some rears!

62-70 B bodies are not the same length.
A body 8.75 ARE NOT 51.40" really 52 5/8"

This link has correct info

Exactly! It's a C-body.

my bad

when i got it i was told it was a 67 B-body

i measured it agian last night and got 56 1/2 flange to flange with the 46" perch centers,30" axles

that sound right for a 67 c-body?

Will the backing plates and brakes all swap over from a 8 1/4 to the 8 3/4?

yes

the only one that does not take the bigger brakes is the stock A-body 8 3/4 axle with 1 3/4" brakes/drums

I have 11x2.5 on my A-body with moser axles,used them from a truck 9 1/4
