i run a no delay box class, foot or trans brake allowed.I foot brake
i am thinking of going to a 2 step to help in the burnout.
is there any benefit to running a 3 step or the MSD launch controller(effectively a 3 step no chip for launch)
i leave at around 2800RPM.will leaving off the rev limiter hurt the launch?do you leave with your pedal matted when using the launch like this?
i was thinking of running a hurst shifter knob with button to control the launch limiter,i have another button below the knob for the line lock at burnout time.is this just getting too busy?am i dreaming and wasting my time and money?
car will normally 60 in the 1.57-60 range
by the way this is my daily driver and i would prefer no button on the brake pedal or steering wheel, but?

i use a 3 step...

one is activated off the line lock button for the burn out..

another is activated off the transbrake to controll the startling line rpm...

and the 3rd is used for the engine

if you are not using a transbrake..a two step will work fine.

Before I got the transbrake, I used a two-step with a button mounted on a tab bolted to the shaft just above the brake pedal. On the starting line, I used my the toe of my shoe to press the button while using the ball of the foot on the pedal itself. That why, I could just mat it on the first amber and when I let off the brake pedal it was off the two step as well.

I use he MSD launch control, I also run a stick trans. I like it as it is easy to adjust your launch rpm with out fooling around with chips. It has a separate chip for burn out and another chip to limit over engine rev

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Please tell us more about this button. What exactly is it?, and where did you get it?

I was going to wire my 2-step to the brake light switch, but feel that this will have a slight delay.

<----- Doesn't use a 2 step. Lots of ways to do it though, momentary button on the brake pedal, shifter, steering wheel, dash or anywhere else you could dream of.

I'd be using a brake pressure switch if I was using one. Very common in stock eliminator cars.

i will use the shifter knob button for burn out limiter operation with shift to top gear
i already have the momentary line lock button fitted to my shifter which i will rewire to the launch limiter, just hold down with my index finger
then i can get rid of my launch rpm light

Good luck with that.... I tried a thumb switch this year on my 2-step. Results were rotten. One more thing to coordinate at the line, just took that much focus away from the lights. I want to move it to the brake pedal, or not use it at all. I'm still convinced, though, that if I can use it effectively, it will make me more consistant.

Credit for this setup goes to Chassisman. Ron told me about how his was set up. Although I think he drilled a hole and mounted the switch directly through the brake pedal.
I used a Painless momentary starter switch. But I've seen what looks like the same switch on the racks at the local parts store.

I just ran my car this weekend with a two step installed and tied to the brake light switch with a toggle on the dash to activate. Absolutely no issues, and after done shifting reach down and slap the toggle off before the finish line. The one time I didn't engine just went on limiter, I then remembered the switch, hit it and no issues.

just a final reply.
the 3 step is great-BUT
tried the finger button for the rev limiter on launch,i am obviously not a woman as i could not do 3 things at once.saw the tree let go of brake forgot to let go of switch.
GBob went to a switch like your pic-worked great.damn it feels weird on the limiter on the line.little more practice against the tree needed to find the good leave time.may be able/need to go up a little on launch rpm, about a 100th off.i'll see,no racing till a T&T in January for me
thanks again for the ideas and help

Tex
PS:the car seems to leave squarer
