04 Ram 5.7 into a 71 E-body. I have the engine and a stripped wire harness and computer. My questions are, [1] what other parts do I need to complete the drive by wire set up ? [2] What would I expect to pay for those parts ? [3] Where would be a good place to find these parts ? [4] Is there a better setup that I can use insted of the DBW that don't cost an arm and a leg ? If so, do I need to get a new computer.

Will the Truck DBW pedal fit? That is what I plan to use, I just have not gotten there yet.

I think that there is more to it than just the pedal, but I realy don't know. I saw one retro that had a unit on the fire wall for the drive by wire, but I dont know if he used a cable from his original pedal to operate it, of if that is just another part of the system that is required. I have heard that it is not easy to get the pedal to fit comfortably.

I do not know about the comfortable fit. But I did get the pedal to operate on the table that I had next to the test stand. Others have used the pedal on here. Are you doing Your own wiring? I did mine with a little help from others on Moparts. Good Luck. Send me a Pm with Your Phone # if You like.

As far as I know, I shouldn't have to do any wiring. My harnes has the conector for the DBW, and as far as I know that should be it for wiring. I realy don't know anything about the DBW on these. When I bought this engine, I had never even heard of DBW, and other than the Toyota recall, I still am in the dark about it. I've had this engine a few years now, but it will be in the car this winter. I just hope I get it all working for next summer.

I use the Throttle converter box that is located under the battery tray on 2003 and 2004 dodge rams. I Modified the stock cable from the dodge ram to work with my pedal. Here is a pic of the box. I think they are about 250 new from the dealer.

I think that I'm getting some mixed signals here. I was under the impression that the 03/04 pedals had the electronics in them. You are saying that the pedal is cabel operated, then goes to the throttle converter. So realy I will need the pedal with cable and converter box and then figure out how to rig it to work in my car. Does anyone know of a good spot to purchase this set up? I'm sure the wrecking yards would have them, but they seem to like hacking things up to get them out. No pick and pulls here.

Sounds like 03 and 04 have the pedal converter and later years use the electric pedal without cable. So you have your choice, use the electric pedal or rig your stock pedal up to the pedal converter box. Also if you're running an older style auto trans, you'd need to rig up some kind of a kickdown linkage.

The only other low-cost option I've heard of for the modern hemis is the megasquirt efi controller. However you'd have to wire it all up yourself and tune the motor yourself and set up the 5.7 with a conventional cable driven throttle body. Sounds like you're probably better off working with what you've got.

Well that clears up some confusion. And I am not running an old school trany so kick down won't be an issue. Thanks.
