The prob is u use 2 tubes of silicone and have more chance of leaking with a wider gap,you will still have pressure inside the block that will create blow-by as soon as the oil gets hot and starts sloshing around it will find a way out if there is any error in the silicon gasket.the attached pic is the way i do a indy vally tray,i cut the center out of the indy tray bevel both sides and take a new peice of alum and machine opp bevels, slot the holes in the outboard plates so the more u tighten the center plate the more it pushes twards the head,

RatTrap, care to wager on your oil leaking assumption??? The gap was miniscule, contrary to what some of you were thinking! But,everyone's entitled to their opinion! So...how much on our wager??? Remember though, I am on a budget! Respectfully, RandyB

Randy, I'll back your wager! You'll be fine.

Randy

Thanks,Randy! The wager must not be on! My concern is if the doubled-up Moroso vc gasket hangs in there and does the job on the oil leak! Oil and headers doesn't make a good combination! Planning on doing some carb testing in a short while. Right now I've got the "borrowed" Bigs 950HP bolted up!

RT,no wager on the vc gaskets not leaking! Another experiment! I wanted to extend the distance the oil has to travel to seep out between the vc and gasket, that's all! So far, after running engine for 15-20 minutes, looks dry where it was dripping with the new, thin gasket that I just got! That could change,I'm sure!

I hope ur project seals good as oil leaks are a pain, I roll under the rule,If u think it will fail it prob will,so do it right before it happens. Keep us updated after a good road test.

Bill, unfortunately, the vc gasket that leaked was one of Greg's! I just snugged it..not over-tightened whatsoever!!! Maybe he has some advice!???

RandyB, hear there is a valve cover leak issue with one side.
Is the other side ok and not leaking?
Check your valve cover for flatness in the area of the leak.
Don't be afraid to tighten the bolts, it's not cork and won't squish out as easy.

I like the cork gaskets designed to swell and fill the void. If the gasket is sliding when ur snugging the bolts u have all ready failed

I thought about one of those for my motor.. I took a regular pan for stage 6 heads and made mine... Has a lexan middle to see the push rods easy..

Good luck with that ... lexan has a lower melting point than your engine's operating temp. I've seen S/S hemi cars with small windows on the valve covers which are fine due to the small area and where they are but putting a window in the valley is asking for trouble. There's a reason you don't see anyone else doing this and it isn't because you're the first to have the lightbulb go on!
