That looks nice on there Randy. That should take care of the oil issue nicely and you'll be all set to have the intake ports hogged out later on. BTW not sure why your previous thread was deleted, I was just givin' you grief about having a parts wanted ad and so forth (almost like you were gonna sneak in a port job at the same time?) and didn't mean anything by it

I can see that baby leekin oil, I would mod the vally tray to control the gap, Indy's engineering of the vally tray lacks any thought at all on there part.
I'll have to respectfully disagree. We have been using the Indy plates on 100s of engine builds since 1999 and never have any issues if sealed properly. We even modify the plates to be removed and installed with the heads in place.

Looks good! To those complaining about the gap being wide...it doesn't look much different than the gap that's there when you use this plate w/ Indy heads like it was designed for. I've never had one leak.

You wouldn't have a photo of one of these - or a brief explanation of how you do it? What do you charge (I supply the plate).

Bill..that WAS a pretty fast delivery! That just proves a government-run agency can actually come through once in a while! Vern,I had the same thing happen 3 yrs. ago...paper gaskets deteriorated, and oil was being sucked into the intake ports! NOT GOOD! Re-did it using tin valley gasket and paper gaskets again. Was fine until just recently! I noticed oil on the threads and insulator, also on the strap! Plugs were oil-fouled terribly! It's a wonder it even started, and ran! It also had a noticeable miss at idle! Pulled the intake...same as last time! Oil got through to the ports AGAIN! Last straw for me! A lot of you guys have NEVER had this issue...all I can say is Good for You! Dave, before I dabbed some silicon on the intake gaskets and lightly "bolted" them into position,I dropped the M-1 down on the heads with gaskets in between, and there was no interference with the plate! Sean(Hardcore B)suggested I slot the bolt holes on the plate to even the gap on both sides...since it's wider on the right! GREAT idea that will be done! Thanks Sean! He thinks the gap is no big deal as well, and HIGHLY recommends using the Right Stuff..which I plan on doing! Thank You ALL for your help on this little X-periment! Keeping my fingers crossed this will solve the oil issue! RandyB
Not to be a buzz kill but been there, done that Had the same gap on one side filled it with permatex copper silicone. Within a week I noticed a puddle of oil under the intake. I resealed the valley cover at least 3 times before I gave up and installed the stock valley pan. I have had zero problems in 2 years since installing the stock valley pan I think the Indy cover would work well with there heads.

It's a very simple process,we set it in an end mill and take a few passes off each side till it can be installed. We apply RTV to the end rails and drop one side in first then center it up with the bolts,We then apply a bead down both sides and each corner(some times we smooth the bead). One stock or aftermarket heads that have larger gaps we use the full face gaskets and a heavy bead and set the manifold in place, snug the bolts and after full cure tighten the manifold bolts.
For some silly reason I thought you meant removing the pan without removing the "Indy" heads !!!!

I gave up on these silicone/rubber/cork etc gaskets for some "paper" gaskets that Ray Barton gave me years ago. If you have machines surfaces I'm sure Roadhazard has some good ones. No silicone, permetex, wire cores..flat on flat and just snug them.

That's exactly why we do it,so that the valley plate can be removed with out removing the heads.

I would blame that on the copper sealer, I've never had that stuff work in a thick bead application. My gaps are huge, the black or grey RTV work great with no leaks.
