Seems I remember a way to tell if big block heads have already been milled (aside from any pattern visable on the head surface). Isn't there an area on the head perimeter somewhere that is supposed to be exactly 1" thick if the heads are virgin?

Measure at lower corner head bolt areas, I've measured many over the years and found virgin uncut heads can be anywhere from .990 to 1.015. You should also cc the head if your doing compression up grades to equalize chambers, etc.
