Ok, while the pulling the trans out to replace today, I noticed my 6qt oe pan is leaking from two weld repairs.
Well it's given me the excuse to install a Milidon #30930 7qt. 7" pan. (BTW, is this the correct pan for a 1969 Road Runner?)
It is a stock 440 shortblock with factory windage tray.
I'm also buying the correct 3/8" pick-up for the pan

Doing the install in-car so I am looking at removing the pitman & idler arms to drop the centerlink.

Will I have issues with the stock windage tray?
How much oil do I add total with oil filter?
Which oil pan gaskets are best to use in with the windage tray?

Thanks in advance!

That pan is 1.75" deeper than what you have now. Have any scrap marks on the bottom of your K-member now? Is the front you your car lowered any amount at all?

Might think about the http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MIL-31580/ Milodon says they sell a lot of those to people who don't want to worry about pan scraping.

A lot of people don't realize they make that pan.

I know two people in our car club that drive thier cars a lot an have dented and opened those 7qt pans. Speed bump and a driveway.

Hey Autoxcuda, thanks for chiming in. Always respect your input on the forum.
This is going in 69.5 RR and I and trying to stay with the old school theme, SS springs, chrome diff cover on Dana, cut-outs, etc. And looking for that ole milodon gold pan and badge.
The front end is set high and have no scrape marks yet
That pan you posted is nice and costs quite a bit too.

Thanks again!

Should be fine. Those look good higher up and were higher new too.

That pan is much more complex to get the capacity outwards rather than downwards. And then all of the additional parts inside of it.

I used a knock off 7qt on this car. It sits low and I don't have any issues w/ the pan. Just make sure you get the pick-up too. The stock unit will be too short.

But you haven't really driven it much either, just wait for that first time you are on the highway and you come across a section they ground the top layer off to repave and you come to your first bridge seam ...

worse been driving around some pretty broke up side streets and over speed bumps, no issues. FWIW a 6 qt is good enough for most applications. You can see it just under the cowl.

You guys must be driving 4x4's then because anything hanging below the K frame here in the northeast eventually comes in contact with the pavement .

I had that pan on my '69 Super Bee.

It sure looks awesome hanging down, and lots of people run them, but I got sick of worrying about smashing it every time I took an unknown road or saw a road construction sign.

I replaced mine with something similar to this: http://store.440source.com/1970-71-Hemi-E-Body-6-Quart-Oil-Pan/productinfo/200-1123/

Hope this helps!

Found some comparison pics I took when installing the pan:

Same here, I have the cheapie 440source deep sump 7qt pan and drove the car to work every day spring-fall with no scraping. Stock front ride height and I keep my eyes open for pot holes. Manitoba roads suck, ask anyone who's been here.

Sorry 808Cuda...
John's right.

I have had the 7 qt pan on a 340 in a E body for more than 10 years now. I have had it off the car at least 3 times to beat the dent's out of it. Like 2 years ago a broken piece of brake drum flew off the car ahead of me and put a big dent in it. I also had to V notch my K member to get it to fit.
I hate it nowadays and am gonna replace it next time the motor comes out.
Last time I had to take it out because it was dented near the oil drain plug and it was leaking. Once I beat the bottom back out then the drain plug area was flat and would seal again.

What really sucks, is that years ago I cut up all the stock pans I had making deep sump pans which got damaged and replaced by the Milodon. They make decent stuff,Milodon

Just like JohnRR said, if it's below the K, it's getting hit sooner or later.
I bought this stock style pan from Milodon, that's how much I hate my 7 qt pan.

Hey everybody, thanks for all the input and concerns.
What I was really hoping for was some input and suggestion on installing it with windage tray and engine in the car.
I'll have to live & learn the consequences of owning such a deep pan.

You will have to lift the engine way up to get the deep sump pan in there. My k-frame area may be tighter than yours, I don't know. But what I do know is I would never get that pan in there without unbolting the motor from the trans.

My advise would be to pull the motor and tranny togeather. It's lot's easier and you will get a better job. I can do it in a afternoon.

My old headers that went under my center link would scrape, not my TTIs that go over the center link.

why's that? How low is the car? What headers? I've never banged a header or an oil pan in any car.

I install my pan and tray from under the car.I just loosen the mounts slide the tray on then the pan.Its tight but goes in with no problem.I install the pickup before I install the motor.Just make sure the pickup has the proper clearance from the bottom of the pan.Rocky

Well the car was pretty low with 273 T bars and short tires on the front (225/60/14) but since I put the F70-14s on the front its not a problem pulling in, but backing in they will scrape still. With the short radials (which looked bad in my opinion too) pulling straight in would make the K frame hit the driveway, pulling in sideways would clear the K frame and headers, but the headers would really bottom out backing in. My house was built in the 40s and the driveway is raised from the road about 8 inches, so the first 3 feet of my driveway is a 30 degree or so angle.
