Need some advice, looking to restore a 1970 roadrunner convertible(no fender tag or build sheet) and I need to know if it is worth it. The car has no engine or trans, was originaly a 383/4spd. Car needs all new metal(Quarters, floor pan,inner/outer wheel houses, trunkfloor, rear frame rails, and the car has been in a minor wreck so it needs hood, fenders and inner fenders. major restoration needed. Is this worth restoring?
Thanks,
Bill

If your doing all the work.. maybe, if shipping it to a shop you might be into it for around 75K or more, if thats the car you have always wanted look for one that is done, you can probably get a nice driver for around 20 to 30K

I agree with ademon. It'll never be 'worth' the money for a professional resto, especially with no tag or sheet. Any option you add will always be questioned, even the 4-speed. But, the 70RR is one of the best supported aftermarket sheetmetal and ebay stuff around, new and used. And without a tag or sheet, you get to build it exactly how you would have ordered it.

Search on member Finoke for a link to his pictures and you get to see the amount of work involved.

Build it!

I think It is a 4 speed but it could have been a 3 speed transmission. without the fender tag how will I tell?

4-speed WILL have "REVERSE" light on dash - 3-speed WILL NOT.

Good question, I don't know. You may have to post it under a separate question. Domestically, only 13 3-speed and 179 4-speeds were built in 70RR converts. Any pictures?

Or read the post above

A car like this is a car to build,if it's the car you want. If your doing it to sell, don't waste your time and money. You will never get it back in this economy. It's definately cheaper to buy a done one. The done one will most likely have a buildsheet or fender tag. That would definately help with resale value, over a car without them.

If your looking for financially sound advise this is the way to go... On the other hand I always do the opposite & would build the car & lose my a##...

didn't specifically say 4-speed !! Was directing it more to general 70 RR convertibles. I'm sure even your 69 has come way down in value

I dont have any pics, but I could get some. From what I have described about the car what do you think a good purchase price would be?

And the car is blue with blue bucket seat interior and white top, there is no hood on the car but on the cowl there is a white stripe, so it must have had a stripe on the hood.

Any pics? The V21 "performance hood paint" was available BLACK ONLY!!
The white stripes were added at some point in the last 40 years.

Me too and a whole herd of others.

However you can get a 69 for $40k

A friend of mine just bought a 69 4 speed that will be an easy resto for $5k off Craigslist

I know you may not want to hear this, but IMO unless you are a Master fabricator with a lot of free time, or have lots of money to waste, find a nice driver done and have a blast enjoying it...it will be a lot cheaper in the long run. When all is said and done, between all the labor, time money etc, it will still be an undocumented car that you might have trouble selling down the line if need be.

I will do most of the work myself, I just hate to see it go to waste(rot into the ground) or get parted out or scrapped (crushed). I think I can buy it for around $1000

1k seems ok if a lot of the little stuff is still on it, It does sound like a huge project.

You're sure that it's a Road Runner and not a Satellite?

Rm27, the vin number on the dash matches the radiator support, trunk lip and the sticker on the drivers door.
