Anyone know where to get a gas cap for a 71 Challenger? This is the one that goes under the flip top lid.
I can't find one listed from NAPA or any other source up here in Canada.
Sure seems odd .....

Sorry I don't have one. I need one myself along with a trim ring that goes around it too.

I should clarify that the one I need is the one that twists onto the filler neck UNDER the flip lid. The flip lids are not like the charger and early barracuda's that had a sealing ring as part of the lid.

From the factory - ALL "flip top" Challengers had a locking gas cap.

There are some twist type caps that will fit under the "flip top" - specifically what ????

Something similar to this TRUCK cap, but the diameter looks too big?

I just went to Autozone and got a stant cap, they have a whole variety, you should have no problem finding one that fits unless your looking for "factory correct", there lots of room under the flip cap.

Got a PN?
I looked and looked with no success. 71 is an oddball with small slots compared to all the other years.

Please let me know if you find something.

I got numbers for locking caps and pictures. Give me a little while. Car Quest is where I got them.

The filler neck on the LEFT is the 71 style. One year only I think??
The one on the right is 70, 72-74 challenger. Were there any 70 ecs cars? If so they might have used the 71 style necks? I sold many of these on Ebay also back in 2003-05. I haven't sold anything since then.

The cap and part# on the RIGHT is for a 71. It listed in Car quest system as a 68 B body, but fits the 71 filler neck perfect. So I'm guessing 68 Bs might have the same design filler neck?

Finding a locking 1 is no problem, that's what I ended up using.

I can't find the non-locking style.

Ask for one for a 68 B body and let me know it it's right.

I just went through the same thing. I stopped at a Autozone and a Murreys and they looked at me like "what is a '71 Challenger, I have none listed in my book??". I asked the guy to look up a '71 Charger, and bought a cap for that. It fit, but didn't appear to be vented, so I was wary of using it. I found this one on ebay, it fits fine and so far so good.......

Thanks for the replies......this gives me something to go on. I'll check my '68 GTX to see if the cap will fit and if it is vented.

People seem to have listings on those cars....'71 Challengers must be extinct to most auto parts suppliers.

1970 Challenger necks have 2 diferent ones ECS and NON ECS

I can't speak for the non ECS but the ECS neck uses a federal 46145 cap( same as 1970 B-body with ECS)
It's not OE correct but WILL work. 1970 Federal style necks or other years I have no experience with

Any idea if the ECS version has the small (1/4") or larger (3/8") sized slots in the filler tube?
