Will Comp Cams part number 8921-16 hydraulic roller lifter work in a Hemi? I can possible purchase these lifters along with some other internal components for a Hemi and would like to know if they would work. When I use Summit Racing's online sight, they list them for a 426RB but not for the Hemi. I thought I would ask the experts. Link to the lifters:

They won't work in a stock block as the hyd. roller lifter is taller and moves the pushrod seat further from the camshaft. This changes the angle of the pushrod and causes an interference with the block and pushrods.

You can clearance the block to run a hyd. roller cam, but it will require a lot of grinding.

I'm running one in my 528 hemi and love it.

Pushrod passages in the head also need to be clearanced.

Thanks guys!!! The block is a siamesed bored cast iron block manufactured before 2008. It has not been to the machine shop yet. The heads are Indy 426-1 Legend heads. Would both of these need machining as described to be able to use the roller lifters mentioned above?

...I "think" that the tunnel in the block that the push rod goes through would end up (after grinding) to be just a groove, unless "maybe" you was to go to 5/16 heavy wall P-rod. My block was dummy'd up with those Comp Hyd rollers and that was the conclusion. I wanted a Hydrolic roller, but not that bad.

on my hemi, the head tunnels for the pushrods required most of the work, just a little grinding of the block, but i used crane hyd. roller lifters not comps. also had to clearence the mls head gaskets at the pushrod holes i was really glad they were aluminum heads as i did the job myself by hand (although with the problems with the m.p. alum heads going on i'm not sure that was a blessing yet). also my gross lift was .610 and i would think that would determine how much you need to grind. dave

If you go Cometic head gasket, they do have some that have the pushrod passages already clearanced ("removed"). Check with Tim at FHO. I got a couple of sets from him.

You could go solid roller. They are about the same length as a regular lifter and won't alter the angles that much. I can't remember if you already have the cam, but you can get a pretty mild roller made up that won't need crazy spring pressure. Thats what kills the valve train (rollers, rockers, etc.). The only draw back is your need to monitor the clearance now and then.

And the bronze oil pump drive and bronze tipped fuel pump push rod (if you use a mechanical pump). Both are consumables (if you keep the cam end play fairly tight and don't have crazy oil pressure, the gear will last a while).
