Anyone hot rodded a 47 Dodge pickup? Any pictures? Would a Dakota frame work. I've got a line on one for $200 bucks. I don't think I can go wrong for that price.

That one is a 48-53 Dodge. It was the body style after the 39-47 the original poster was showing. Gene

I saw this one this weekend at the Pumpkin Run outside of Cincinanati, OH.

I've never seen a Dodge grill/hood done like this before.

As long the guy does not put a Chevy engine in it, all is well.

My buddy put a '46 International on an extended
S-10 frame, then stuffed a 440 4 speed into it.

Looks and runs great because you can by complete airride suspension kit for the S-10 chassis and the brakes are cheap etc..

I've seen Dakota frame swaps done to them, same as the cars. There's a couple of projects on the in the Street Rodders section on here.

For $200, that's a steal.

I'm in the process of doing up a 1948 1.5ton on a newer step van chassis with 4bt cummins engine...it'll be done one of these days.

i just picked up a 41 Plymouth, really a 39 wth 41 front end. Also picked up a 331 hemi, blown. Kinda excited, I also paid $200, plus $300 for 2 extra cabs 1 frame second bed and bunch of fenders and a wrecked grille. Made a 2 X 4 frame for now and will build my own chassis.

I had forgot about this section. Anyone know another F/E besides Mustang II for a 2 x 4 steel frame? Would love to stick with older Mopar minus T-bars. Something like AlterKation but for straight frame rails.

Pics when I get back home. Mike

you can probably find a front stub from a F/J/M body...i recently seen one in a 37 ply truck it looked good,,and didnt hang out couldnt even tell it was there

I'm thinking an F,M & J subframe will be too wide for that era truck unless you move the fenders out. I had to move the fenders on my 35 Dodge sedan, and the tires were close to the fenders on my 54 pickup with 7" squad car wheels.

When you said "minus t bars", does that mean you want a Mopar suspension without torsion bars at all?

Your going to be pretty limited to something available before 57, or something newer with struts. The early stuff had a pretty good kick up at the front wheels to provide suspension travel. If you intend on using the older stuff, I'd probably go with an original frame and leaf springs. Newer stuff tends to have the suspension above the frame, so their frames were level, or almost level around the wheels. If your thinking newer stuff, I think I'd look under something like a 1st gen Intrepid. They were boxed tube frame with all components bolted above the frame. I think the struts would fit under the fenders easily. Wonder what's under the rear drive newer Chargers and Challengers, you would not have to modify the spindles due to the front drive like an Intrepid. Gene

minus t-bars was in reference to something like an altercation. Mopar control arms, spindles, brakes with coil springs and a rack and pinion. Just a thought to see if anyone has done that. Mike

I would seriously measure up a long box S-10 chassis. All the suspension stuff is readily available and the swap makes the truck drive like a brand new one.

Forget trying to weld on C-body parts etc...
mount the body and cab on a frame that is ready to rock and that can be picked up at a wrecking yard for nothing. that's my

My buddies International 440-4speed on a S-10 chassis

then make your own motor mounts and drop in the Mopar engine.

One thing I've been told and seen myself is if you want a handling complete front suspension, look at race car stuff. Modifieds and other full chassis stuff. You gotta find someone that is well versed in them or do a bunch or learning though.
Street rod stuff is sold once and priced accordingly. Race stuff is as good or better, and is priced so the guy can put his car back together for next weekend.

I've definitely been looking at Speedway, but need to get some blueprints or similar for the mounts. I'd love to use tubular arms with a mopar ball joint for the uppers and a round tube lower with a strut rod and coil springs for the lower. I just need to know where to build the brackets for attachment and build a support for the coil over shocks. Would like to use Mopar spindles as I have a Wilwood 12.19" brake kit for B-body drum spindles. I may just have to get a book and and angle finder. Mike

thanks guys.its chopped 5",took 6" off the rockers, channeled 4",and when i chopped it i moved the cowl back aprox 3" so the roof would line back up,then took the same amount off the rear of the doors.i built the chassis and used a speedway 6"drop front axle kit.i used a 68 dart manual steering box and set it up for cowl steering.used a 9 1/4" posi .plans for the engine are a 512 stroker kit and aluminum heads with a comp hyd roller.

i really like the willys clip on the dodge.
