Does anyone have any tricks/tips/ideas on how to tighten up the mirror head? There is a ball that fits into the back of the mirror housing and it is loose fitting at this point and won't stay in adjustment.

We've taken a center punch & put "Dimples" all around the ball. Just that little bit tightens it up. You have to move the mirror head around to get all the areas needed to get it tight for the position it usually sits in.

Never had a 69 apart. But the 70-74's have a plate behind the glass that needs to have more tension on it. Usually the pot metal rivets from the factory either wear or break. Problem is, if u cant get the glass to come out after heating it. You may need new glass too.

I've taken them apart and tightened up the plate that applies friction to the ball. I've broke one mirror glass and another came right out. The newer reproduction mirror I have has screws that just needed tightened.

You're Welcome! the nice thing about that fix is you don't have to worry about breaking the mirror.

Had to do it to an NOS Pass-side manual mirror of all things.
