Can JB Weld be used to fill low spots on a stock steel valve cover?

I did some minor welding + raised/reworked the baffles on a set of stock steel small block valve covers and now have some light grinder marks, etc that need filled in. I have doubts that regular body filler can take the engine heat....

15+ years ago I used All Metal body filler & it's still there.. Don't know if the new EPA compliant stuff is as good..

It should stay put just fine. Its just a bear to sand/smooth. When its set and partially hard you can work it easier with coarse sandpaper or a rasp. Finish sand when fully hardened.

Thanks for the advice.

JB-Weld doesn't feather out like body filler does that's for sure. I guess I can always add some thick primer over the worked areas and then sand it down a few times to blend eveything in.

The filler I have is the evercoat stuff that sands out super nice, but I'd hate to try it and then have it bubble or lift the first time the engine got up to temp.

FWIW A buddy sends stuff in for powder coating all the time, he uses All Metal on pieces that are to wavy & it survives the bake cycle @ 400 degrees..

I used body filler on set that had some dimples. They turned out great. JB can be a MoFo to sand.

I have used fiberglass in the past to fix/fill the dents on oil pan, then some bondo to get more smooth texture and came out great.

Just use regular bondo - plastic filler as mentioned , bondo takes heat well and will work , JB weld is way to hard and not flexible , use a coat or two of primer surfacer over the bondo when you are done sanding , if the low spots are small use a regular razor blade to smooth the bondo out , you should not have any problems.

another vote for regular filler. Think of how hot the sheetmetal on a black car gets in the summmertime sun and the filler holds up just fine.
