Got a 68 SF, 383-2 & just finished the engine work & took it for a drive. Did not get to drive it before it came over.

At first it wouldn't shift out if first until almost 40 so I put the pin in the bellcrankup top & had the arm at the trans held forward & sure enough the vertical rod was almost an inch above the the ball when I disconnected it. Adjusted this & it shift at about 18 under light throttle now like it should but it is apparently going straight to 3rd gear. Cant's feel 2nd at all but it runs fine up to 60 at least with the engine at a normal RPM & it does have a 2.94 gear & Suregrip ( just checked ).

It has a console shifter but that it messed up too. I can either have it go into park or down into first but not both. Probably some mismatched parts there too.

This whole car is nice & solid but it appears to be a mix of at least 2 cars here. Guy bought it on ebay outta colorado so I know no History & I've just been fixing the stuff they either missed or didn't care about.

Thoughts?

Butch

Before anything else you need to get the shifter straightened out so the gear positions are correct; if the transmission lever is too long you will have either Park or 1st but not both.

With the shift linkage correct you can manually shift it to see if there is a second gear, if there isn't it might need a simple kickdown band adjustment.

Shorter arm , that's what I needed to know. I do have a couple that are short. Band adj is an easy check too.

Thanks
