I have a spare intake and am getting ready to do some mods to the runners. Would like to see pictures of what guys have used to reduce the plenum size. The links I found were old and the pictures had dissapeared.

I would take that last pic and go one step farther and seal the area under it to reduce plenum volume, they really have way too much plenum volume.
I am not causing global warming, I am just trying to hold off a impending Ice Age!

Thanks for the pics.
More please especially filling in the plenum.
I'm thinking of making a peice of alluminum that would block off the plenum(one for front half and one for rear half) right at the runner oppenings and then brake a 90 on each one and block it off all the way up to the throttle body opening.
The other idea was to mill a peice that would block the entire bottom at the runner openings. Then make a duct to the bottom of the throttle body. First weld the duct to the bottom throttle body opening. Then cut the plate to fit the duct. Then weld the plate to intake and duct.
Yet another idea build a huge turtle onto the Hughes valley plate that would fill in the plenum and direct airflow.

Wifes Durango is bone stock and looks like it came off the showroom floor. When I am done it will look the same. Otherwise screw the M1 I would just go with the Edelbrock FI from Hughes.
Problem is Hughes and everyone I have talked to about these engines is after seat of the pants performance. This is the only vehicle I own that I am not looking to make it go faster. Just want some more mileage. The intake is one of the problems with the mileage on these vehicles.

I don't beleive the intake will change the MPG much at all.
What will make a big differance is getting the fuel atomized better. When you pull the intake you will see where the fuel stream shoots right on the PR pinch then onto the floor, well that fuel never gets atomized properly. Put some accell injectors in it, they shoot out a fine spray instead of a straight stream. Another thing that will help is get some quench in it, cheap way is to deck the block about .060 (measure your block don't take my word)and run a .039 head gasket, that should get you about .040 quench and it will bump the compression a little, that should bring the MPG up significantly as well as the low RPM TQ and then you can bump up the gear ratio and really help out the MPG. Another thing is you can get the computer leaned out a little by one of the programmer companys.
Shrinking the plenum will make it more throttle responsive but thats about it. The computer will make adjustments for any A/F ratio changes. The mods I mentioned will make more use of the fuel squirted into the engine so you will make the same power with lower throttle angle and less fuel squirted in, the computer will actually lean out the mix more because the O2 in the exhaust is consumed more completly and it will think it is rich when there is less O2.

Already have a piston designed up and just waiting to get a final bore before ordering.
This may be my first EFI magnum build. But, I know may way around pistons. Just sent over 200 new and used custom pistons to the scrapper. Engine building 101 was done 30 years ago.

Intake changes on these engines have proven to increase mileage. Let's see em.

Obviously you'll want to use a material that can withstand the temperature and not sluff off any material, but otherwise just stick something in there. You could fill it up with large ballbearings, too, and then fish them out thru the TB with a magnet stick. An easily-adjustable variable plenum -- if you didn't mind the funny noise.

The Durango RT has the red colored injectors I'm told they are 23 lb. This is a mod that can be done easily at any time. A few years ago there was an issue with the connectors don't know if this was the injector or not.
I looked in the link to BIONICDODGE but did not see any pictures.

I don't know what type of injector the R/T had so I can't speak on that. I mentioned a disc-type injector earlier. In this pic, the 2nd and 4th injectors from the right are the ones I was talking about. The 2nd from right is the 'skinny' injector I mentioned. Both are common in Ford 5.0 and 4.6 engines, probably others, too.
'94-97-ish Magnums have a gray injector with 2 holes in the disc (not in the pic). I don't know what the earlier Magnums had.
Generally speaking, a finer mist should give a better burn, but there are exceptions where a specific pattern is more advantageous. As an example, the Y-shaped pattern (4th from left) is generally used in a 4-valve cylinder head so that 1 injector can aim at both valves.

I have one of those engines here, it s going in my -55 coronet, been on the planning stage for a few years now since the valiant survived this years racing without any bigger mishaps maybe this winter... not wanna hijack your tread but is there something else to look at that helps mileage? gas is expensive here and I rather spend my money on the race car

Here is my plans. The block has had several freeze plug failures and has 120,000 miles in short trip driving. Hot tank block freeze plugs and cam bearings. I plan on a Custom Set of Daimond slugs. Looking for maximum quench minimum compression. I mean maximum on the quench scary tight clearance considered by most. Then I am planning a dish that would make one think I was running a turbo deisel. I already have a set of Iron Ram heads.
Then going to do some intake work with the stock intake. In your case you probably are not concerned with stock appearance. The Hughes Edelbrock FI intake is supposed to be the stuff. I just want stock appearance for those that keep missing that. I also have no concerns with performance over 3,000 RPM. And by posting this in the race only section people just can't grasp that one.LOL Just figured more likely to find someone in here with pictures than in the general forum.
Came up lite on the pictures and heavy on the opinions.

Yes, you’re in the Race section, so yeah, guys that come in here aren’t geared toward your question.
‘Lite on pictures’… Did you join the website I linked to earlier? There are pics there, however the pics in this thread pretty much show the things that can be done. In the past year or so I have researched and found 2-3 webboards that have pics of beerbarrel mods. Bionicdodge, a Dakota-Durango forum, etc. They all show pretty much the same thing. You shorten the runners for RPM (which is not what you’re wanting) or fill the top of the plenum with epoxy and/or do the airfoil thing. You will either need to try those things yourself or come up with something new.
Based on the large quench pad on the Maggie head, and the high-comp piston you described, I think it would be a perfect application for Singh Grooves (if you are willing to experiment with a ‘snake oil’ type of thing -- I would if I had more time).

so is this for a 360 that's in the R/T or a 318? I wouldn't go too big on dish...I'd aim for ~10-10.5:1 compression with tight quench. might be suprised at what you can get away with compression wise with tight quench. if it does ping a bit on high load, you could look at water injection like the turbo guys use
for a cam, I'd probably look at getting the cam reground by bullet, looking at the HR252/320 or HR253/305 lobe for the intake, and the HRL256A lobe for the exhaust (http://bulletcams.com/Masters/HRlobes.htm) and maybe see if they could regrind it a little tighter, like on a 110-112LSA vs. the factory magnum's 114, and install it ~106-108 ICL.
I don't understand the need for expensive pistons, I'd probably look at flat tops (KB107 or 167's depending on displacement, or their forged counterparts), and if you wanted to keep compression down on a 360, some KB362's or the icon 742's....
hotroddave had good luck running a high compression 318 (IIRC he was around 10:1 with 302 heads and KB167's at 0 deck) and using a 273 solid cam (240/240 adv, IIRC)...IIRC it ran on 87 or 89 octane without knock. he also got 29mpg in his A body with a t-quad.

I could live with 29 mpg Leon, to me this and race engines are basically the same thing, getting more power from the same amount of fuel I like your "diesel" theory this has nothing to do with the subject but I remember that saab experimented with variable cr, very high under light load and less with higher load, worked well but I guess it was to expensive to produce just pretty hard to do on a v8

Are you adamant about using the factory EFI? If not have you considered the FAST EZ efi setup?
I am going to do a dual TB setup on my r3. I'm really excited about it because I will actually be able to drive it instead if sitting there with a laptop for 6 months in a state of confusion.

Drive tge awd durango daily. A lot of intake work. Gas mileage still bad.
But, it will sqaul the left front on the hit unless you put it in 4high.
