Fred, I don't know why NHRA is so slow about factoring these new cars (DP's and Mustangs). Currently, they're not in the ballpark. Then I see 5 SS/AH cars, all in the 8.60's that aren't qualified for the eliminator. Does anybody have a grasp on how much time/money is involved to get one of those cars that fast? The factors are all screwed up.

Indy rumor is they are going to get HP on Tuesday. I hope they get hit hard and refactored into REALITY.

I have heard of one 5.7 that made 615 HP on the dyno.

Can you say "BOGUS"? I knew you could...

And yes the Phords need HP added, too!

I don't think anyone had a solid idea on what HP
they would make until now. One program that I am familiar with has seen gains of 25 HP since first testing based on tuning. Just like any other factory package in the past I am sure adjustments will come. Let's just hope they don't render the cars usless like the early pro stock rules did

I have a buddy with a 428 Cougar E/SA that has already started wailing and gnashing his teeth over these "bogus" combination.

After all, they should be "stock" cars. Just like his Cougar with the Edelbrock aluminum heads, the "chemical milled" components, and his boxfull of cams, all different, all legal. Right.

I failed to mention the E/SA car is only a 5.7 and out ran most of the 6.1 A/SA cars

How do you factor a car that just hit the tracks? Until the cars hit the National, or Divisional races no way to adjust them. The only people that are happy racing in Stock/SuperStock, are the guys at the top. The rest need to work on there cars, and pick it up.

The 5.7 combo will probably get 3.25% this week, and shortly the 5.7 will be in A or AA only. The 5.9 will get hit too.

I believe the AA/S CJ got hit and will have to move into SS.

It will all shake out in the end.

I can feel for the guys with the older iron, but this has always been the nature of class racing. Hero to zero in the stroke of a pen.

Most of the guys whining were the same ones whining about guys dumping and protecting their indexes. Now, NHRA took away .3 of index, the guys aren't dumping with the fast cars, and the other guys are still whining. See a pattern?

Yes and No... Bracket race unless you are laddered up against another car in your class, then it's heads up.Normally the index is for qualifying, and isn't a problem except at INDY where 160 cars show up, and only 128 race. You can either qualify into the 128 car field, or you can win class and bump the low #128 car. Want a gaurenteed spot in the Eliminations? Build a car now one runs in, win class and you are in. Most AH cars do not care about anything other then the shootout.

You are correct on the AH cars but several years ago NHRA decided that class wins mean nothing but a Class Walley and some bragging rights. Winning class does not put you in the field . You have to be one of the fastest 128 to get in... Don't believe this is right but still the way it is.....

Class winners are no longer guaranteed a spot in the eliminator.

So then the screamers are worried about the index staying soft because how far you can run uner it it determines you making the field. That's much easier than in the early 70's when you ran. The handicap was based on the nation record and you had a tenth breakout allowed. All these records now are bogus to me.

We raced the Candies car, and had our heads handed to us. We went a 10.85 and we were the slowest E/SA in the qualified field. There is no comparison between the two cars. The DPs are a very well thought out race car. From fresh air, after market manifold, after market oil pan, let alone the rear suspension.
Indy had 174 cars show up for stock and CJs and DPs raised the bar, and a class win does not guarantee a spot. That rule has been changed.

Fred, I can remember the Stock guys running off the records. From what I remember, that didn't work since people protected the records and rarely set them to keep their cushions. I think the AHFS will work, it just takes too long when the HP factor is so far off to start with. Maybe they need to review them more frequently and make more adjustments accordingly. That PT Cruiser is another one that will take time to get the HP right.
