I've posted tons of stuff on here trying to figure out why my car has a bog/hesitation at WOT. If I hit the gas slow and steady, there is no hesitation but at lower rpms I nail it, there is a hesitation.
When I have the electric choke on, it runs perfectly. But after it starts opening, the hesitation is there again. What should I be looking to do now. I have all the pump cams from holley. I'll go check what my vacuum is at again, I'll have to ask what power valve we put in at the nationals from my dad. Also I'm gonna check the pump shot to see if its instantly shooting gas in. I read to check it when the car isn't running... but nothing is coming out when it is off. I might be replacing the fuel pump next.
thanks ahead of time.

Do you have the accelerator pump linkage clearance adjusted correctly?

You don't get a pump shot????? It should shoot even if the engine isn't running and you pump the gas.
That is what the problem is. Need the pump shot.

I was wondering this also because I know you can move it up and down and also add those cams in there to change it... but was is "correct"? I'm assuming as soon as I hit the gas I should see it shooting gas in which would equal what you're saying?
I have lots of dumb questions

Even with me opening the throttle all the way open I wasn't seeing any pump shot... Adjustment is WAYYY off? need a new accelerator pump diaphragm thing?
Why would it run good with the choke on, but once it opens go back to running bad??

while the choke is on..the mixture is rich to help the engine run while it is cold..

the acelerator pump is a shot of gas to over come a lean condition as the throttle blades are opened....the pump shot riches up the mixture...

Well I really can't comment on whether or not you need to change pump cams, but at WOT, there should be about .015" clearance between the accelerator pump linkage arm and the bottom of the adjusting screw.

The accelerator pump basically eases the transition between the idle speed circuit and the main circuits. If theres too much clearance, the carb basically starves for fuel in that split second when you punch it. The pump arm should start moving as soon as the throttle begins to move.

If that adjustment is within spec, you might need to go with a larger pump nozzle.

Alright, I'm understanding this a lot better. I actually was getting a pump shot, but I had to unscrew the bolt almost all the way (where the spring is) and now it is there. gotta find my cams now because its basically all the way unscrewed, but it still is not giving an instant pump shot.

What they said it needs to be squirting as soon as the throttle is touched. Might move the lever that contacts the pump itself & see what you get and if not, R&R the square cover & check out the diaphram and whatever kind of check ball/brass needle under the squirter that holley uses (I'm not a holley guy)
