tired of taking hours masking and taping up trim for paint, getting it perfect, only to have the paint flake back off 2 years later. I think this was common when the cars were new, but I'd like to find something more durable. Has anyone tried lightly scuffing the painted areas on trim before painting? Or is it just part of owning a car from the 60's era??

Are we talking about painted inserts on grills and body mouldings, etc.? I think that stuff was lacquer??? Whatever the factory used goes on very thin and sticks pretty good. The only thing it doesn't do well is retain it's shine.

Short of scotchbriting the surface and cleaning it really good before paint I don't know what else to try.

yes, I'm talking about painted emblems, grills, tail panels, tail light bezels, hood inserts and such. I've been using spray enamel, maybe that's my problem.

For black trim, try lightly scuffing, light coat of black self-etching primer and then your trim black
