I sold some 318/340 main bearings a couple weeks back. Brand new in the box. Just got home and get a PM from burks340 stating this:

"i am just getting around to installing the mail brgs that i purchased from you and come to find out that the thrust brg is trashed zero crank end play clearance . i want a refund on the brgs if i dont get it i will report you to the better business bureau and consumer affairs and also let the people know on moparts that you sell defective parts . "

I didnt know the BBB cared about little ol' me! Try to save people a few bucks by selling a new part cheaper than you can get it anywhere else and this is the response.

Gotta love it!!
Zero crank end play...blame it on the bearings!! I can't even imagine the BS that parts suppliers put up with.

First ... did he try to seat the bearings(whack the
crank fore/aft with a mallet)... I do that to seat
the bearings.... makes a difference... also is he
using a radius crank

Let him try to bash you...pretty sure we could put him in his place.

- but maybe a simple phone call could solve the problem with questions such as Mr-P-Body asked. The guy is obviously frustrated and thinks he got ripped off. Conversations via the internet can have their shortcomings.

But they also allow a quicker insight into who the person really is and how quick they are to (mis)judge, imporatnt info in my book. And anybody that puts stupid things in print for the whole world to see, gets what they diserve.

And i agree, the guy is likely just frustrated, and instead of throwing a wrench, he unloaded on an answering machine, been there, done that.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

People that don't build engines very often, are quick to blame parts when something doesn't go together well.It happens all the time.
Hopefully,he will read this post and find out we are willing to help him figure it out,and the problem can be resolved.

Step up to the plate return the mans call talk to him. Tell him what you just told us and I'm sure he will be happy.
Think about it all of us make bad judgement calls at one time or another. If you,I or anyone else on here thought we had been SOLD a bad part,we would not be happy about it.
I'm sure a return call to him will not only make things right, but will make you a new friend. That is one thing you can never have to many of.
One call that's all

yea I bet that goes over well, trying to convince him it's not the bearings fault.

That's why we don't sell anything....I either keep it as a conversation piece or it gets tossed, or we might even give it away. I'd rather have it collect dust on some shelf somewhere than give me a headache.
What happens is that there are so many guys around who don't know what they are doing....they try to save a buck by purchasing someone else's old stuff and then complain when they screw it up.
Bearings are easy....check your clearances and put it together. Obviously, someone didn't.

If that was his first PM to you then that's no way accomplish his goal to resolve an issue that he thinks he has with your stuff

I sold an oil pan and pick up on here and got a similar response but he wanted 1/2 of his money back because it needed 3-5 days of welding and straightning

Funny as it was on my car and operational without issue listed it as having some "battle scars" & they were not really bad

Offered his money back if he wanted to return the parts & never got a response

Since he wants to air this out so bad, first tell him you already did, then tell him to come on here, with all his crankshaft measurements, readings and such, and explain to everyone here why the bearings you sold him are defective. Maybe he can also bring all the specifications for the bearings as well?

Its one thing to be simply inexperienced, we have all been there, its another to be plain ignorant and rude.
