i am comnsidering biuying a 426 block-it has a casting date of approximately june 1969-the block has a whole in it-from the engine throwing/breaking a rod. I have been told the block is repairable. The hole is above the pan rail (the pan rail is ok) the hole looks to be smaller than a tennis ball. How good of a repair can i expect-no i do not have the missing piece of the block-even though i know the area as to which the engine was blown from being over revved. Any idea as to how much the repir bill could be? The cost of the damaged block is $1,000, and it has alot the original pieces but not all of them included. I believe there are no rocker arms-and the heads have cracks in them-although they did not cause any problems on the engine when it was running before being blown up. If i get the block fixed-any idea as to the value? The block should be date correct for a 70 vehicle. thanks

I'd have the block magnafluxed for hidden cracks BEFORE buying it. If there is just a simple hole knocked out of the side itr's likely repairable, but if that explosion also took out a main web or cam valley area (small hidden cracks, etc.) it's pretty much junk IMO. Get ahold of www.rocketresto.com in Olympia, they know a VERY good cast iron wleder in the area.
