I have a 79 360 with an rv cam and a 4bbl and I would like to wake it up a little bit. It is currently running the factory compression @ 8.5:1 - has anyone swapped on Magnum heads? If so where will the compression end up??

Thanks Moparts!!

think your compression may be around 7.5 or so. i have been told you can gain another point in compression. i am thinking of doing a magnum swap as well. alot of info in tech pages. check em out

I am running magnum heads on my 360 but I also am using high compression pistons and had the deck machined so the pistons sit zero to the deck. This is giving me 10.6:1 compression with a 0.040" thick head gasket.

On of the best features of the magnum heads is when you get the pistons to the top of the deck you can establish an ideal quench which makes the engine very detonation resistant. I run my engine on 89 octane and can run 87 in a pinch but would need to slow down the advance in the distributor to run the 87 all the time.

doubt you're at a true 8.5:1. when I did the math after measuring my shortblock and stock heads, and it was about 7.8:1. mag heads and thin MP gaskets would bump me up to about 8.6:1.
