I went on a road trip last weekend and got sick of a whining noise coming from the rear end. It's not that bad but still doesn't seem right. As far a my memory serves me the whine has always been there. The axle is a 3 year old Moser 60 True Trac 4,10 that's not been beaten too hard. I really would like to fix this. Or is the True Trac normally noisy? Any ideas?

Correctly set up rear axles are completely silent.
But a slight error on clearance or in the manufacturing of the gear set can cause some normal noise.
taller (large number ) gear sets are more likely to have some noise.
A better description of the noise would help, such as whines on acceleration, decelaration, or simply gets louder and faster as you drive faster. Each case has a typical reason..

Thanks! The whine is noticeable from like 30 mph and only under load/steady speed and acceleration. It goes away when letting off the gas pedal. It gets more present as speed increases. The whine is not wery hig pinch but not low eighter. I can actually hear the mid-pinch whine coming through the center of the rear seat. Hope this helps!

Im no expert, but if it goes away when you let off the gas, I'd believe it to be a ring & pinion issue. My gearset howls like an old hound, but I was cheap at the time, and bought a used pumpkin out of a truck.... You get what you pay for. If yours is a newer set that you had set up, I'd suspect it wasn't set up spot on.

If its worn like that for a while, I'm not sure if you can go back and adjust it or not. There are a few guys on the board here that are good with rear end questions.... I'm sure someone that knows whats up will chime in.

Like said above - once it has been driven for period - even a relatively short period) your noise will more than likely be there to stay. The gears have set their pattern and trying to change it may well make matters worse than they already are.
Also like said the deeper the gear the more likely it is to have some noise.
