is the 63 autolites a colder plug? if so then those plug's will probably look a little darker with the same jetting, as a colder plug disapates heat more quickly, if I was in your position I think I would leave the jetting alone untill you can get to a track and make a pass and click the motor off just after the stripe to get a true reading, then jet for MPH and that may actually be smaller jet's.

You are taking a chance when you shut off your engine or go into neutral with a 727 at the finish line.

The trans can spin up internally and blow up the front drum like they do on the line after an overrunning clutch failure.

It may not happen to you but it can and has.

Some guys have had that happen when the engine blows at the top end and stops turning.

Sorry this is not related to this post but it is a safety issue so I had to speak up.

What carb?
You can get hundreds of opinions on carb setting, and jetting for these holley carbs...But I gotta suggest, go to the Holley web site look up the listing, and the factory jetting is a great baseline to start at believe it or not....
If you dont like power valves, just take out the front PV and jet the recc up by 6 jet sizes or so..
Also 90% of the time, a flat spot is a lean condition in my experience...
Its almost impossible to fine tune a carb on the street. Go to the track and tune for the best MPH, make one change at a time, and make a few passes before making any changes.

hay bob thanks for the info i think im headed in the right way just got to fine tune it now...the plugs are a litttle tan on the tips and go a little gray looking on down which i think is lean but could be wrong, just dont want to burn anything up....i plan to head to the track this thursday and plan to tune from there i was just looking to get a base befroe hand..but as you said its hard to do when your spinning the wheels off which dont count in racing but that another post i plan to take all my jets and plus some and work my way up/down and hope all go well...i know in the end i still need to put on some new meats in the back so thats something i need to look at too...but i will keep you all posted on this ...oh i got off track the carb is a hollley hp950

Run it the way it is first, then jet for MPH. Grey to me means it fat still I like pure white on the center porclyn with no black or silver colored dots on it looking thru a 10X magnafying glass. I like to see a small thin pencil line halfway down the ground strap and a gold to blue tint on the ground strap, 1 1/2 to 2 full threads with color on them showing heat transfer from the plug body into the head Reading spark plugs on a race motor on race gas at the track is a complete different animal than a street car on pump gas on the street driven by a normal driver

3923 is the same plug as the 63. 3923 is 5/8, 63 is 13/16

Your the first person I have ever heard say that I have used and race 727 trans. from B&M,Art Carr, A1, Torqueflyte Specialities, Pro Trans, Turbo Action and others. None of them have ever said, unless it had a low band apply valve body, to not put it in nuetral after crossing the finish line I have seen racers (and done it myself) put the car into reverse after crossing the finish line and wreck there cars and or blow the motors up. I was lucky when I did it, I managed to get it out of reverse quick enough to live and tell about it without hurting anything major Please elaborate on what your saying BTW, I don't put the car into nuetral anymore after crossing the finish line, once was enough
