I tried searching for window net install pictures but I am having trouble with the moparts search engine. If you have any pictures of your installs can you please post them up. I am looking for ideas for both the bottom and top bar install/removal.

Thanks!
Mike

At what et/mph are the window nets mandatory?
Also is the any specifics as to where the net has to go precisely in correlation with driver/seat?

thanks,
Doug

9.99 and no special postion relating to driver.

I have my net installed similar to this. Using a angled net with a rod that follows the shoulder bar. It just slides into a section of small diameter tubing on my lower bar.

That's basically the same net I have. What are you using to hold the bottom bar from sliding out to the back? You said you had small diameter tube but what holds the bar in place?

this is not my net but an example of using an angle over the square net. this one uses the verticle bar and none across the top.
most square nets use a cable to secure one end to the shoulder bar.the are a pain and somehow always getting tangled or in the way

You can secure one end with a simple push pin or even a hood pin.

The way the rule reads is when a cage is mandatory a window net is required. As far as position I have read that the net must go forward at least to the rearmost part of the steering wheel. I don't remember where I read that but it's in one of the rule books. I'll hunt for a reference.

NHRA RULES SECTION 20.27

Quote:

6:3 WINDOW NET
A ribbon-type or SFI Spec 27.1 mesh-type window net is
mandatory on any full-bodied car required by the rules to have a roll
cage. Window net must be securely mounted on the inside of the
roll cage, with the permanent attachment at the bottom. All
attachment points must be designed in an attempt to protect the
driver and avoid contact with track surface or guardwall.
Eyelet clips, dogleash hardware, hose clamps, etc. prohibited . Penetration
of webbing, except as performed by manufacturer, prohibited. Any
modification to net must be performed by manufacturer. A ribbon
type window net does not expire, unless it is torn or battered.

but if you have a cgae and your car is slower than the rules mandate having a cage you can skip the net.

Fred, IHRA 2010 rulebook, page 107:

"WINDOW NET: If class mandates a roll cage the entry must have an SFI 27.1 safety net properly attached. ................. Net must extend forward to within two inches of the farthest back portion of the steering wheel."

The big difference is in IHRA a cage is not required until under 9.0 seconds while NHRA is more strict at under 10.0 seconds. However those who run both must be aware of the differences. Currently in LA there are two IHRA tracks and only one NHRA track.

I have never had anyone whip out a tape to measure how far from the wheel it is.

I was told that if I had a cage I had to run a net. However my car will NOT be going quicker than 10.0 this year. If I understand correctly what has been posted above I can skip the net for now and still pass NHRA tech?

IF THE CAGE IS NOT REQUIRED I CAN'T SEE HOW THE NET CAN BE

I was instructed that the cage (regardless of the cars ET) was the deciding factor on the window net. The cage (although not required)is in the car in preparation for the turbo engine in 2011.

If time permits I'll install it as shown in the pics.

This comes up every so often here. The rule clearly states:

6:3 WINDOW NET
A ribbon-type or SFI Spec 27.1 mesh-type window net is
mandatory on any full-bodied car required by the rules to have a rollcage.

If your car is not required to have a rollcage, then it is not required to have a net (or a competition license, or anything else required by a 9 sec car) just because you installed a cage.

Keep a copy of the rule book with you at tech.

If you plan on going faster in the future, why not just install the net? Luckily the net does not expire like seat belts, and no reason you can't error on the safe side of things.

That's the plan and sorry to create a fuss. I just wanted pics on how people installed their units. I have a net and rods but no brackets. However, this item has moved to the bottom of the list since I now know it is not required. Thanks everyone for the information!

Aside from creating an area difficult to see your opponents I think a window net is a good idea for all cars going down the strip. Just like I think a neck collar should be mandatory for anyone required to wear a helmet.
