are the backing plates the same for 10" rear brakes used on the 62-64 keyed axles as the ones from 65 up ? this is for an 8 3/4 rear. thanks in advance !

I know the bolt holes are different.That and the old style axles use shims to set preload.Rocky

you mean the retainer holes to the axle tube flange ? i never thought about that. i know shims were used to set end play. thanks rocky.

'62-'64 backing plates share the same bolt pattern as the newer version, but unlike the newer version, they double as a wheel bearing retainer.

Dr Diff I thought they had a different pattern.I learned something.I knew they were the retainer and had the shims.I had my kids apart a few times.Rocky

The late '50s version had a different (circular) bolt pattern. I don't know the specific year of the change-over, however.

The backing plates will not interchange because the offset is different, and unlike the later version, the early backing plates retain the wheel bearings.
