How much "free play" or "slop" is acceptable? At the trans end, with the cable disconnected & shifter in Park, I can move the cable about 3/16".
I'll try their adjustment procedure, but I'm curious as to the amount of free play others might have encountered. It's an SOB to change as there's almost no room between the trans blanket & floor.
According to their website there's an adjustment at the shifter end.
This is a dedicated racecar, never been on the street, so I wouldn't think the cable could be worn out; but I could be wrong...

i have zero end play on mine. everytime we have the trans out it takes 2 of us, 1 in the car, 1 under the car, to get the adjustment just right. there's no way i can move the cable from under the car. it's an awesum shifter tho.

Thanks. There's no info about the free play on their website, but they don't list replacement cables either, so the Big Assumption is that it can be adjusted out...

i start my adjustment in park. then go to the opposite end of the shifter & check that the trans arm is in the correct position. then select each gear pulling the cable off the arm to confirm the arm is in the correct position. if you can move the cable in park it must not be fully secured at the shifter.

Thanks again. They say to do it in D (I'm PRN123) but I had planned on checking P as well. What I've yet to grasp is how to remove the slack, but hopefully that will be obvious once I get the cover off the shifter assy.
I would think if it's dead-on in P and D (being both ends of the range), it would be good for the other positions, but I understand your point, and will check every gear. Don't know how each position could be adjustable, though.

the adjuster at the trans lever is a fine tune compromise kind of deal. one turn can be a difference between all indents of the valve body being felt & all but one type thing. since it's my car i'm always the one under the car feeling each indent so i'm used to the feel. when it was new & it wasn't right i could slip past a gear under the heat of battle. but now i've got a handle on it, every gear is positive. i've got the A&A ultimate brake valve body PN123N. it's cruicial to have it right.

no, it tells you do the adjustment in 3rd gear fyi.
just loosen up lock nut on trans. side and adjust, to get it to go in the lever hole evenly.

A12 -
D, 3rd, same thing on this trans but I probably should have stuck to the same terminology.
Cable end goes into hole perfectly but if I pull on the cable end, there's free play, meaning it won't fall exactly into the hole.
This free play is what's concerning me, especially if it's translating into incorrect lever position.
