Is a A833 out of a 1976 D-100 /6 Dodge pickup a the same length and configuration as an A833 b/e body trans? I am figuring that it probably has forward and rear mounting bosses for the shifter. I am guessing the gears might be lower with possible granny gear.

I'm looking for a cheap swap.

The 76-85 833 2 wheeldrive trans are identical to the B/E case wise, if it's truck it should have both bosses, some vans equipped can have only the front boss,...the 833 was also used in 81-86 GM trucks, 2 and 4 wheel drive,.....chances are if it was behind the leaning tower of power (/6) it'll have a steep 1st gear, if your planing on using it in a big block bell, you'll probally need the bearing flange spacer, as the front bearing flange diameter will be the small one 4.250" IIRC?

Great information guys. Thanks! Were any of the truck transmissions standard gearsets or were they all OD's?

All van/truck A833's are overdrive and all have the same 3.09 first gear regardless of engine.. and all have the big 5.125" front bearing retainer that needs to be changed or cut down to be used with a big block 4.80" bellhousing.

I just installed an 833 OD behind the 426 in my 64 Polara. I bought a new 4.8" br from Brewers because my bh had the 4.3" opening, then I had a machine shop open the bh up to 4.8" to fit the new retainer so if I blew the trans I could get a ring from Brewers to reinstall my old 833. I lost some performance, but I gained a lot of drivability due to the 3:91's. LOT nicer on the highway now!
