I hooked up MSD part #8676 to my 7al3 and used a toggle switch on the dash. I used a test light to make sure the 7al3 is only getting power to the 8676 when this toggle is on.

Timing is locked out, I can fire the car up and the timing is at 39(total is 35 since 7al3 retards 4 degrees), when I flip my toggle it goes to 30 which is great. But, when I turn the toggle switch off the timing stays at 30. I have to kill the main power at the rear bumper to get it to reset to race mode(35 total).

I can use the 8676 knob to turn the retard to zero and it works fine, but the 8676 is out of reach under the dash so that's why I wanted to use the toggle. So this is not an emergency problem, but I'd like to ask if there's a way to get that 8676 to cancel out when I turn the toggle off. The 7al3 is under the dash, the 8676 only has a 6 or 8 inch cord, it says in the instructions not to lengthen the wires.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Mike I'd like to be able to do it from the drivers seat, so flipping the switch at the back bumper isn't practical, and flipping the ignition switch on the dash doesn't do the trick.

I just now went out and turned the switch on the back bumper on, made sure toggle switch was off, and fired the car up. Timing was at 30

So this thing is getting power through the box somehow even when the toggle is off. I think I'm gonna have to get all crazy and move my 7al3 box off the firewall(inside the car) and put it right under the dash where it's visible so I can reach the adjustable retard knob and all my RPM limit chips and stuff. It might look ugly there but I'm tired of messing around.

Sounds like you need a switch on the big red wire
going to the MSD ignition box to re set it

Yea but that would kill my ignition while driving, and I still don't think that even that will work. I think I'll still have to turn the knob to zero. I'll get in there this weekend and see how hard it will be to move the box and see if all the wires will reach. It's too bad that module selector didn't come with a longer cord, I've seen guys have that knob on their dash, how did they do that?
