I went to Martin this weekend for the first race in over a year... but this time I was the crew chief... Doug(plasticfantastic) was at the wheel... I put my W-2 backup engine in last week and was going to set it for 10.0... well with the mech throttle stop and low launch and shift rpm's I had it dead on... first pass off the trailer was 10.002... then a 10.01, 10.01 10.01, 10.01... Doug stretched the revs a couple from the shift light and pulled a 9.98.....first round in 10.0 Doug hit the red eye with a -.005 red.... oh well he was trying... needless to say I just left the 10.00 dial in for everything(we were also in pro) so in the first round of pro the other driver went red against Doug and he ran it out to a 9.98... next round of pro wasnt nice... Doug rolled into pre stage and cleared the engine went into full stage and when he was going to mat the pedal didnt realize he didnt have the trans brake button down enough and it rolled right through.... oh well... still a learning stage... plus part of that was my fault that I didnt have the carb set right so he had to clean it out alot... so I'll get that right... other than that and the weather being HOT and humid it was a over all good weekend.... But I did pretty good for a guess on a 10.0 pass.... by the way we qualified 2nd in 10.0 EDIT On our qualifying for 10.0 we ran a 10.008 the #1 qualifier ran a 10.007

Sounds like fun and a deadly consistent car! Does it wheelie at all at 10.0?
With the mech throttle stop on and only part throttle it carried them about 6" for 30' 1 time then the rest of the passes it would just lift them them the wheelie bars would push it down(I needed to lift them which I did today)

You certainly had that car zoned in Mike, and Doug did a commendable job for not having a lot of seat time in a unfamiliar car,,just keep plugging away and it will all be good,,,,Had a great conversation with you Sat nite and thank's again for the generator info.
Light travels faster than the speed of sound,,,this is why some people seem bright untill you hear them speak.

I know larry and kay smith are coming, Everett Smith is coming, Lonnie might, he said he wasnt sure, Dad will be running the road runner, and if Mike wants to make it out then we'll run, if not I'll still be there probably beating on my New Yorker.

Great job on the tune,Mike!! I bet it felt good to see the car back out there!! You are a pretty good crew chef!!
Its different... I believe once Doug gets more seat time I think it'll be better.... I think I should have slowed the reaction down on the button once he had a few runs in... at first he was a touch slow so I run the button faster but as he got more seat time he was picking up so I should have slowed it up... but the big thing is that I need to get the carb RIGHT

While working on the carb today I found the reason why Doug rolled the light on the weekend... I would pull the car into gear to load the engine to see how the carb was working and when I put it back into neutral and hit the gas to clean it out it jumped forward... I did this a couple times then said this isnt right and started looking for the problem... a melted shift cable... the way I had it routed around the starter it slipped off and got close to the pipes... SO it wasnt Doug's fault at all... was mine for not doing it right.... so tomorrow I need to order up a shift cable... what a shame I liked that cable.. just the skinny old regular one, not the HD one(I dont care for those, they dont flex very well)
