Ordered a 4-bow headliner and got all my bows in the loops making sure they are in the correct order and side to side but after numerous attempts to install bows on the car they will not line up properly. Started thinking maybe the headliner was wrong so I took measurements off the center bows which were new one 17" apart, old 14" apart at the seams. Also took some measurements off my 74 SE Charger and it was also at 14". Is there something I am overlooking? Anyone have another 72 they can measure? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I just picked up a 72 Satellite, and a new 4 bow headliner as well. I can check for you tomorrow if we go visit her. Is there anything else you need to know aside from the 14" VS. 17" info? Tommy

I think you may be trying to install it backwards. The center bow forward is 14 center bow rear is 17.

A friend is missing his '72 RR bows, are Charger headliner bows the same?

OK here's the deal...You're missing the "listing wire retainer clips". The "listings" ARE the bows themselves which have erroniously been called "bows" forever. I have the 72 FSM which shows, in great detail, the correct procedure for both removal and installation of the headling in both fabric and hardboards as well. In in the 1972 BODY SERVICE MANUAL IN section 4 under INTERIOR TRIM AND SEAT. I'm going to attempt to scan this and post it but when it comes to posting on here I'm traumatized to the point of giving up. Brian, I will scan and e mail the procedure to you. You do need quite the array of clips to properly install this liner. Without them it's virtually impossible. Good luck. Tommy

Attempts to post this procedure from the FSM have proved futile. If any-one out there can jazz this up for all to see I can e-mail it to you. Posting pics up here have never been my specialty and I've never actually sat down to figure it out. Can some-one recommend an easy and good way to post pics (yes, been asked by a few,,,I know). These FSM's are volumes of information and I strongly advise all of those who do not have theirs for owned vehicles to obtain them. Basically they're priceless and actually show the CORRECT way to handle things without killing some-one...or worse....

This scan keeps oversizing itself and its a pretty important one. I will re-scan the written steps a little later and send it again... Sorry for the horror show...

If I am indeed installing it backwards my new headliner is wider on one end than the other and I tried installing it with the wider end to the rear. Does anyone know if this is correct? Also as stated earlier I was told I need the listing retainers, but I haven't seen these offered anywhere and the one article I pulled up on installing headliner in a 71 Rrunner made no mention of these. Only showed sticking bars in the holes and standing up, anyone done one of these lately that knows? Thanks!

Brian, see figure # 12 on the FSM..attatchment # 4 a coupla posts upward...You may be needing the "listing wire " AND "support wire" that attatch to the side rail retainers as well. Like I said, without all the proper hardware you'll be flapping around like a rag doll on a windy Kansas day....
